I’m so glad I managed to join the Sculpture Swap, as it gave me a chance to play around with a variation on one of my favorite themes: the 'i’iwi / scarlet honeycreeper!
One of my partner’s themes was an animal doing something interesting, and my brain got stuck on making a birdwatching bird.
I thought anout trying a different medium, especially since I fire my clay atuff at a community studio, so I was worried the timing wouldn’t work out (or something might get damaged in the process) but I went ahead with handbuilding the birb in procelain, and it was actually finished on time!
Omg, loved this so much as I was stalking the sculpture swap. I grew up summers in Hawaii and was filled with joy and jealousy when I saw this! I loooove honeycreepers! And it’s a rattle, it’s too much wonderfulness. You are so talented!
Oh, I didn’t realize! I’m going to listen to some of their song online if I can. Such a special, endemic species. I remember spending so much time worried about their well being in my youth. I’m so glad the are surviving
