Abstract embroidery with rings

I made this for the recent Abstract hoopla swap which was a lot of fun.

In addition to using all colors of threads and stiches and additional elements such as buttons, beads and ribbon I tried a new technique I saw on a reddit post, Embroidering around rings to make sunbursts. I didn’t have wooden rings like the original so I hunted around for small ring-like objects I could use and ended up using grommets, a couple of keyrings and some hoops off an old necklace.

This is so dang cool! I bet I could spend quite a bit of/too much time looking at all the details in the stitches and embellishments. It reminds me of a microscopic look at something teaming with invisible-to-the-naked-eye life.

I love, love, love this. You have such a way of making this effect look effortless. I am obsessed with the painted circles and x’s in the background. They are the excellent peek-a-boo contrast to all that explosion of awesome! I love the starburst rings.

I love the way you used paint to fill in some of the background space! Also, cool technique…the various starbursts are fun and nicely done with the rings you already had.
