Book It! Challenge Zine

For part of the Book-Themed present(s) for my friend, I thought she needed a Book It! Challenge. It made sense to put together a little booklet tracker rather than just a card with a Pizza Hut gift card in it.

She does a 50 books/year challenge, but I thought that was too long to wait, so I went with ten (also works out great for page count for a zine style booklet - but did make it harder to track down a ten-slice pizza graphic; I made it black and white for tracking by coloring it in.)

I ended up getting a set of Book Journal Pages from FunnyCloudPages on etsy. There are ten book review pages for the 10 books to complete the challenge.

I made a pocket that looks like the “old” checkout cards in library books to put the gift certificate in.

Just looking at it now, I regret not putting/printing a design on the inside of the cover.

I debated trying to match the blue for the binding thread, but why go subtle when you go bold. So it’s metallic gold thread embroidery floss, and I used all six strands.

I’m thinking about putting together a couple more little book challenge/tracing zines using the other pages in the set I bought/downloaded.

What a cool gift! All the fun details about old-school reading programs from childhood are really great. I just bought paper napkins at Michael’s that are themed around old library checkout cards. I don’t have a specific use for them, but TheMisterT is a big reader, so I imagine they’ll get used at a birthday party or something for him in the future.

My mother is a sucker for unique napkins that she likes to give to people for ‘hosting gifts’ or accrue herself. I realized recently that you don’t actually have to save them for special occassions/parties and can just make a snack special with them.

We’re a cloth napkin household in general.
