Bookshelf Shirt

I love these 3D-look fabrics.

Pattern: McCalls 6864 / Butterick 6848

Fabric: 3d blue floral bookshelf from purpleseamstress fabric, scaled to 12" repeat.

I used 1 yard of print on demand fabric for the body, and a fat half of coordinating fabric for the sleeves.

Notice I managed NOT to get a flower right on the bust points. Yes, I did plan it that way:

Mostly serged. The hems were stabilized with wash-away hem tape and then sewn with a double needle on my regular sewing machine. I do use a walking foot for knits.

Next picture shows the horizontal shelves matching at the side seams. If I had had more fabric I would have used a diferent vertical for the center back than I did for the center front, to not have this less than fantastic close repeat of the design at the side seam.

I like the plain sleeves with the busy print but would have loved to see you match shoulder seams  I probably wouldn’t have though about flower placement on the front until after it was finished and they were in bad places.

That was strictly an economic decision. The custom print is $20 a yard!

Unfortunately that’s a common price here for material.

Wow…seeing your layout really brings home the level of planning involved. I love the finished result.

The “avoid this area” circles ;).

Because it can be printed at any scale, I like to try it out at different sizes to see what I like, and what works best.

Then, when the fabric arrives, I already know where the center front is going to go. It speeds up my process.
