Finally finished this painting of my older daughter that I started last year. All that was left to do was the background but I wasn’t sure where to go with it. The original photo, by a professional photographer at a music festival, had a lot of other people in it. (I also got the photographer’s permission to use his photo even though it’s of my kid.) I wanted it to be just about her… Finally I just dove in to get it done.
The title is “But I AM The Light” - When she was little, my daughter was standing between me and a lamp while I was doing something like maybe knitting. I said, “Honey you’re blocking Mama’s light.” And she replied with “But I AM your light, Mama!” Clever little fairy child… That phrase has kinda defined her personality ever since.
This is absolutely beautiful — both the painting and the story behind it. The background decision really paid off; it keeps the focus exactly where it should be. And that title… pure magic. Your daughter’s light really shines through every part of this piece. Thank you for sharing such a touching moment.
