This is my latest (sorta) Block of the Month quilt from the Quiltalong. I had gotten way behind on my blocks over the course of the year, and wanted to catch up. I used a batik fat quarter bundle, and a bit of black yardage for the background. (Both were from Joann’s.) The fat quarters are all celestial, and butterfly themed. Hence the name. I dare you all to not sing the song whenever you see it.
I started in November, with the Love in the Mist block (August’s BOM). I had some fun fussy cutting a lot of the center pieces.
Connemara (September’s BOM)
Blueberry Pie (November’s BOM)
Crown of Thorns (December’s BOM)
Garden of Roses (June’s BOM)
When I started the Diamond Square, I knew that several of the fabrics could look drastically different, depending on what part of the fabric was cut, so I wanted a bunch of HST’s to pick from, to create a harmonious block. So I made double the HST’s I’d need. As I laid them out, I found I could make two harmonious blocks! Two of the Diamond Square Blocks (October’s BOM).
At this point, I was really into making blocks for this quilt, so I went rogue. I came across this Asymmetric Star blocks, and made two more.
Finally was the Aztec Jewel, which was January’s BOM.
When I finished all the blocks, I had just enough of the block batik to make sashing, but nothing for an outer border. I went back to Joann’s, and found this beautiful purple batik. The back is a solid black. I love how it came out!
