We have 100 days until December 1st!
(Furious note making ensues)
100 days?!?!?! I need to get to work!
I received my Wool Warehouse order, so after the Prairie Schooler swap is finished, I can start knitting the matching Christmas socks I’ve ordered yarn for. Yes, I stole that idea I’ve made matching Christmas flannel PJ pants for a couple of years, but we have enough of those now. We usually spend a day hanging out at home one day between Christmas and NYE. I know Mr. Imma isn’t a fan of fluffy, warm socks to wear in his shoes, but he can wear them at home that day. Then, the Christmas wall hanging for Mr. Imma is next.
@AIMR that’s a very, very fancy garland. It looks great and I know how much work it must have been.
I’m really getting into a Christmas mood, stitching for the Prairie Schooler swap. I’ve already listened to Christmas songs!
So, my August goals were:
- finishing some of my Christmas themed WIPs and UFO’s - I have a stack of finished embroidery and cross stitch, but it still needs to framed or otherwise used. I’ve been sewing a few ornaments but the shape I’ve been trying to do is very fussy (stocking).
- make a few hanging towels for gifts - I’ve made a try-out towel for myself, not made any more.
- start working on Mr. Imma’s wallhanging and ordering batting for that - nope
Projects for later on in the season:
- matching Christmas socks. Yarn bought, not started. But I’m a fast knitter, that won’t take long.
- angel crochet. Nice plan, did nothing
- new project: extend tablecloth
It looks like we’ll be hosting this year, so decoration is a priority. I have a few things that I want to frame in a hoop, and I’ve found some solid wood frames in the thrift shop. I hate framing honestly, but I need to give myself a little kick in the backside and get going. I’m sure the result would be wonderful.
I also have a Christmas tablecloth that I made years ago (just sewn, not embroidered or something) but it’s too small for our current dinner table, that I inherited a few years ago. When I boxed up my fabric last winter, I swear I found some leftover fabric. I need to find that again and see if I can find a clever way to extend the current tablecloth without it being too obvious.
I’ve been enjoying some Christmas stitching for the Prairie Schooler swap too, and even listened to a few favourite carols
I haven’t got much of a plan for the rest of the Christmas crafting though. I have hardly anyone to craft for, and I haven’t found an avenue for charity crafting locally yet either. I might just make a few cute things for my stockpile, so I’ve got some stuff ready to go (and so I can use some stash!)
Oh, how I envy you. Haha
I shared my pattern in the Sockalong. The trick is to pick a super simple pattern and to knit it using a super fancy looking yarn and definitely not the other way round. For these socks I’m not using my standard pattern but a different one, this one: Free Download - Fairy Lights Socks in West Yorkshire Spinners Signatur – Black Sheep Wools It’s still a simple pattern.
@jemimah my gift list is getting shorter as well as more people in the older generation in my family pass away They liked receiving handmade gifts much more than the younger generation. I need to come up with something for my mother, she likes handmade gifts, but I’ve already gifted her so many socks that she probably won’t need any more for the next decade.
Is she a reader? I love those “reader’s pocket shawl” patterns. They have a good sized pocket to slip the book or your glasses in or to keep your hands warm when empty, too.
Oh, those look nice! I’d never really seen those before. She is a reader, and her house is always cold, she’s frugal and keeps the heating on low now the energy prices are so high. For her birthday this winter I gave her knitted hand warmers and a little energy efficient space heater. She always gets books or magazines as well.
I glued a Christmas card together! I know it’s not that much, but I just finished the Prairie Schooler swap where I stitched a Christmas themed thing, so I’m really in the mood for Christmas now.
I went to the local version of the dollar store yesterday. It’s early September, 32C / 90F, we’re in the middle of a heatwave, but they already had a full isle of Christmas decoration, right next to the BBQ department. Seems they’re skipping autumn, Halloween and St. Nicholas (on December 5, when Dutch kids receive kids instead of at Christmas) and they’re just going straight for Christmas.
I found a very old WIP, a Christmas tablecloth I’ve been embroidering for an unknown amount of years. It’s the right size for our small antique table, which we haven’t used as our dining table in years, but it will go into my craft room soon. Obviously my craft room also needs embroidered tablecloths. There’s another tablecloth with tomtes (sewn, not embroidered) that I made for the small table about a decade ago, and I need to check if I can extend it somehow.
Framed this one finally!
I have one more that I need to frame but I have to stain the hoop first. Plus there’s a third finished item, but I haven’t made my mind up about that one (frame or banner).
After that it’s time to cast on the Christmas socks!
It’s super cute!! I love it!
This is adorable!!
I actually finished stitching last year, but I put off properly finishing it because I don’t like that part. But I want to put it up somewhere this year.
Are you guys making any progress for Christmas? @Bajita you were making angels right? @AntBee how are the socks? (can I ask?) @jemimah did you stitch any other Prairie Schooler patterns? anyone else making plans?
You can ask, but then I’ll point out the window and exclaim,”Oh look! A blibbering Humdinger!” and run off. Haha
It’s so cute!
I have found a pattern for my sister’s placemats and have the fabric…just haven’t had time cut them out and sew.
I did make a couple of Christmas ornaments and my Prairie Schooler for my partner was a Christmas one, but I can’t post it until she gets it!
This is adorable
@Immaculata I did try making some angels, but I was unhappy with the result so I’m back at square 1.
I was checking out @cindy’s Pinterest and saw these cool crochet ornaments. Decided to make a couple to see if they would work for the upcoming Sweat Shop Ornament Swap…uh, no…they take a lot longer to make and I kept messing up the pattern…but, I will add them to my own collection of crochet ornaments!
Of course, I ordered more expensive Lurex metallic yarn in gold before I tried them…so guess I will have to find other ornaments to use it up! I had silver in my stash…I should have waited.
Very pretty
