I’m in a crafty slump, I’m just making cards right now. I won’t be hosting my family this year, my sibling is hosting. My in-laws haven’t made plans yet. We don’t do big gifts in my family, only small / handmade / consumables, but I need to come up with something extra nice for my sibling as a thank you for hosting.
I came across this decorating idea that I wanted to share with you guys. It’s very low-budget, but fun - you might already have everything :
That is a cute display. A fun way to highlight some favorite baubles.
For the hosting gift, what about an embroidery piece like a tea towel or fridge magnet? Or if they’re a hot drink person maybe a special mug rug or something?
Great ideas! I was thinking of buying some fancy coffee or tea and chocolate so those ideas would work with that. We’re all big tea and coffee drinkers in my family. My sibling and their spouse are more “grown up” and less silly than we are, so I’d have to think hard about what they would like.
I am waiting for some paint to dry while Mr. Imma is watching a sports game, so I thought I’d start wrapping gifts! It’s early but I’m always trying to buy little small things throughout the year. I also needed to wrap some birthday presents so I have an alibi and Mr. Imma is in a different room and not paying attention, so the coast is clear.
I got this fancy chocolate for my sibling’s hosting gift. I happened to be in the town where the factory is and it was much cheaper there. There was a house-shaped box with Santa and gnomes in the same price category, it was much cooler but I ended up picking this one because I had to carry it home in my backpack. I’ll probably add some fancy coffee or tea and something homemade. I’m keeping my eyes open for something that can be repurposed as a gift basket.
DS2 said he loves his one set of flannel pajamas, so I decided to sew flannel jammies for everyone for Christmas. I’ve lost my mind. JoAnn’s had their cotton flannel insanely cheap even before the coupons, so it’s all good.
That’s a lot of work but a great gift! And they can be worn all winter, not just at Christmas. My mother always used to sew us matching outfits for Christmas that we’d wear for the annual Christmas photo in front of the tree and those are some of the cutest childhood pictures I’ve got.
Today I put up my xmas tree, with the lights! For the cozyness. The decorations have to wait a little while longer.
But I thought since Im making xmas pressies, I can have my xmas tree up, right?
So far two xmas pressies done, one (black) scarf for a younger brother, and a potholder done in mosaic crochet for my older brother. My plan is to be finished with all but one xmas pressies in noveber, so that I can craft what I want in december.
sure looks like they could be Hallmark movies!
I’m going to look up a few of those
Displays like this always make me smile (big book lover here who is trying to convert to kindle version but still enjoys the feel & look of new books!)
My grandma gave me her yarn, so I thought I’d make some small things with it so everyone in the family could have something. Right now I’m making mini stockings, and I’ll make a few other ornaments, fake plants, small amigurumi, scrappy bowls, etc. We’ll see what I have time to finish before christmas!
*(if I include the family cat - his would probably get stuffed with catnip )
Oh, I love this idea! A great idea to use up little bits of yarn and very meaningful to those who will receive it.
I keep wanting to incorporate my grandma’s supplies into something to give to family for Christmas, but every year I remember this around mid-November and by then I’m running out of time.
I have done thinking about Christmas today, does that count? I’ve actually done a little bit more, I’ve been digging through my large box of semi-finished things and I’ve found a few pieces of cross stitch that I can turn into ornaments, and three finished pieces that I wanted to frame in a hoop two years ago, and I’ve found a larger piece of cross stitch that I’ve been meaning to gift to a friend for a while. I also found a few things I want to frame for myself + the thrift store frames all in stash. So plenty of stuff to do tomorrow. Hopefully all done in time for Christmas decorating!
I ordered the handmade soaps for my wash cloth bundles from the farm down the road and once I have them in-hand I’ll play around with how to package them. In the meantime I’m working on my socks.
Sock one status:
Is that the heel flap?? At this speed you’ll easily have them done before Christmas.
I think the handmade soap will make the wash cloth bundles extra nice. I would love to receive something like that for Christmas. Handmade and useful.
I broke my sewing machine sewing the very first seam of the day, after cutting and assembling everything first. So much for my afternoon of assembly-line sewing. The repair shop is open on Tuesday morning and Mr. Imma will bring it in as soon as they open. Usually they take 1-2 weeks, hopefully there’s no end-of-the-year rush. I’ve got my sewing circle on Tuesday so I will sew as much as possible there.
I wanted to frame one Christmas finish from years ago, but I can’t iron out all the wrinkles. I will try to iron that in my sewing class as well, our teacher has a much better iron than I do. I did manage to attach another finished item to the cardboard inset of the frame, the frame itself still has to be painted. I stitched that (I think) 2 years ago so that’s not even that bad. It will look great when the frame is painted.
