Colorful Dot Mandala (acrylic on canvas)

In my head, I think this was originally going to be something a bit different, but it ended up becoming this meditative dot mandala, and I don’t hate it!

I was trying to come up with something for the Craftlympics challenge in this season of Nerd Games, and one of my favorite events to watch is para biathlon, so I started with the idea of a target.

I was upset that I couldn’t find a compass to draw some concentric circles (I know I totally have one), so I ended up taping this smallish square (I think 10x10") canvas on my pottery wheel to help draw some circles before I started painting. (In retrospect, I should have just painted the circles while the canvas was on the wheel, but alas, I did it the less-efficient way.

Then, I just started from the middle and ad-libbed outward until it was mostly full. I painted in bits kver several days because my far-sightedness is finally catxhing up with me and these dots were making my eyeballs go a little batty!
Here are just some in-progress photos from when I remembered to take them.

I’m having a hard time catching the true colors in photo, oh well! Tha k you for reading my rambling!

I love that you used your pottery wheel to make the circles. Your patterns, color, and spacing of the dots are perfect! I’m impressed that you ad-libbed it!

It is so interesting how you did this. It must have taken forever to do those dots, but the effect is mesmerizing!

It looks really pretty and super uniform! I definitely would have a hard time keeping it even.

Thank you so much everyone!! Don’t worry, there are plenty of lil mistakes and wonkies if you zoom in, haha!

This is killer. Its pretty inspiring seeing it. Would look cool as one of those repeating patterns that you could link up. Like on a big piece of fabric to make stuff with… or as a black light poster.

Very cool!!

It looks gorgeous and so impressive! I admire your consitency and the evenness of the pattern. If I tried to freehand that it would look like a windshied, in a blizzard, with wiper blades on high :joy:.
