Teaser shot of what I’m up to. It’s ridiculously vague, I know…

In my country, Halloween is not traditionally celebrated, but over the last couple of years there’s an increasing amount of pumpkin and ghost decoration available in October. But nothing like on the other side of the Atlantic. So all the Halloween things are hard to find here and my solution is to place a fabric order online. I usually do one big order from the US once a year in late summer that also includes flannel (not popular in other colours than white in my country) and Christmas fabrics.

For a whole moment I forgot flannel was a sewing fabric/material, and not a plaid shirt I sported in the 90s! I confused myself!

Oohh, where do you order from?

I love flannel, although we call it flannelette

No supply shortages here (yet, at least…) but I still live, and just messaged my partner with a bunch of questions.

Usually through fabric.com or fatquartershop.com. I have a tradition of making flannel PJ pants for Christmas and I love Robert Kaufman’s Christmas prints. I still wear the aqua reindeer print pair from 3 years ago all the time and it still looks really nice.

We call it flanel but we say fla-NEL instead of FLA-nnel like in English. Plaid is another confusing word for a non-native speaker! Plaid flannel yardage can be found in my country if you look hard enough but most shops only sell white for sheets. I am very jealous of American fabric stores with their huge selection and low prices!

We say fla-NEL, too. My friend and I discussed jammies made of flannel, but I always get stuck in the blankets when turning over, so it’s not for me. I mainly buy flannel for chenille baby blankets.

Honestly I wear them out of bed more than in bed too. Early in lockdown it was still quite cold so I even worked in them (from home of course)! I’m working on a massive EPP project and I’m thinking of backing it with a plain coloured flannel. It’s going to be so soft to sleep under!

I love flannel lounge pants. I have a pair that I received in a 13 days of halloween swap, at least 4/5 years ago, they are patched and repatched, but I love them. Worn flannel is really good.

I made my first couple masks backed with old flannel sheets, which was quite comfy when it was still cold out…

My lounge clothes usually end being patched up several times, more than any other item of clothing. It would be a waste to throw them away when they are getting really nice and soft. And no one will see them anyway.

I was in the shop today for some embroidery supplies and the store was nearly empty! Looked at my favourite online suppliers and they didn’t have any stock either. Apparantly half the country has taken up stitching over the past couple of months.

Got another project done! Woot!

Wow! In JULY?? That’s early! Handy for our swap, but early
