Thanks all.
The hubby has been on conference calls all day, which has given me time to iron and start prepping the next phase of this soccer quilt–cutting and pinning to prepare to sew rows together.
What are you using for filters?
I’m still doing the 52 week sew along and this week was themed for pinterest inspired projects. The top left photo is my inspiration of fabric roads for toy cars. So I figured out my own measurements (because of course the picture I pinned didn’t link to any) and then found the pattern for the cars in a book I own. I’m excited to see if my nephew wants to play with it.
I Googled the Thorsbjerg trousers, they look like they would be comfortable to wear. Have you decided on which fabric to use?
Yes, they are basically pyjama pants.
I have a 100% wool, woven fabric in green with subtle blue and brown plaid lines.
My friend who actually does iron age says it is ok (even though very rich) for the 4th century.
Will need to make linnen underpants because wool on bare skin can be a bit scratchy
Are you putting the feet on them?
I love that you’re making them as historically accurate as possible. Does this include hand sewing them?
There’s a couple of Youtubers that I’ve started watching that do historically accurate (as far as possible) clothing. They go back to contemporary resources as often as possible. Not seen them do 4th century, yet.
I want to make a Victorian outfit for myself. I’m thinking 1890s walking skirt, not too fancy, and practical for actually wearing it. I’m kinda ‘stuck’ on the corset, know which one I want to do, but need help with it (measuring myself for one thing), and can’t do that for a bit.
It’ll happen one day.
Just tissues (like kleenex). But I’ve read that vacuum bags and non-fiberglass furnace filters work well…but, my vacuum is bagless and I don’t have forced air (we have hot water radiant heat).
Two layers of cotton fabric filter over 60% of 0.1 micron particles (corona virus is 0.3 microns) according to this study I read, and that’s certainly better than nothing.
Happy Friday! (It feels like Saturday!) The kids were supposed to have a 2 hr early dismissal, so I am letting their “homeschool” let out 2 hrs early today!
And, I have officially sewn together the 1st 2 soccer jerseys!
I finished my first mask using the directions our local hospital provided. It’s a bit sloppy because I just sort of hurried through it to get a feel for the pattern. And, please ignore the stains and scorches on my ironing board cover. The ones I donate will be neater. Going to cut my fabric today and batch-produce these babies til I run out of materials.
I really love the soccer ball part!!
It’s really fun, isn’t it?!
Oh, I like the side binding much better than folding over the pleats like I tried to do.
3 rows (halfway) done. I made a mistake in my plan, thought I corrected it, and but still have a mistake. Either way, my dd is happy and said to leave it and continue. I’m putting it away for the day.
Finished the top of my quilt!! Now to somehow acquire enough backing material to finish this beast…
This is covering my queen bed.
My mom and my friend are also sewing masks for hospitals and family members.
I’ll be crafting on the weekends or maybe more evenings. This was my first week of remote learning with my 7yo, so I was real tired by the close of the day. I’d take a nap, get up and make dinner, then collapse on the couch to zone out with Animal Crossing.
Just before opening up this thread, I cleaned off a good chunk of my desk. I’m fixing one of my ceramic bunny ring holders which I accidentally knocked over, and I’m just about finished cleaning some gunky stamps that my son’s classmates used during… er… Halloween.
I think I’ll mostly be making ATCs. I might try out a video on handlettering.
Wowee…that is a gorgeous quilt top! Love the scrappy look
Oh, wow! That’s huge! And absolutely gorgeous!
