Cyanotype experiments

Cyanotype (aka sun printing) is one of the oldest forms of photography. You may have experimented with it yourself.

I won a raffle prize at the end of the Nerd Games and was generously given a gift card. I used it to buy cyanotype chemicals. I have enjoyed doing this process over the years and it’s always fun and exciting.

Here’s my first batch of experimental prints from the recently acquired cyanotype chemicals. Many of these are likely to be embellished or to become embellishments for other pieces in the future.

These are so neat! They do look like pictures. Especially the ones that are folded over lace. I really want to try doing cyanotype photography at some point. Maybe a pinhole camera.

I love your use of lace - looks so ethereal! I’ve also been doing cyanotypes but I tend to focus mainly on flowers and plants.

Thanks. I used some tulle fabric with stars. I found that the stars showed up better if there was something else over or under them that blocked a bit more of the light. Interestingly, in the top one, that round thing is actually on top of the fabric but it looks like it’s behind in the print.

Thanks. I have used some of my favorite plants in the past. There is a tiny weed with heart-shaped leaves that I love to use. Unfortunately, where I live now they spray herbicides so :slightly_frowning_face:.

These are beautiful! I love the textures. I hadn’t thought of using fabric, lace, etc. with these. I have a small kit that was handed down to me at some point, and never got around to using. These have given me some ideas
