Decorative Ball Crochet Pattern

These balls are light weight. They have a plastic ball inside.

Optional: I attached rings to them, so they can be hung from pieces of string or Christmas tree hooks.

(I first glued plastic backsides for making your own buttons - I forgot what the things are called - to the plastic balls and let the little ring push through the middle of one of the crochet halves. After the balls were finished, I attached a small split ring to that plastic ring.)

Also optional: change color every second or third row (don’t forget to weave in the ends before you assemble the ball).
Tip: if you use the same color last for both halves, it won’t be so noticeable where you have sewn them together.

These look amazing! I have not enjoyed working with cotton yarn but I can tell just by the appearance it’s what you used & it looks great. I will have to try it again.

Such a colorful grouping!

I don’t know if I have ever seen those kind of balls before…I will have to look…They are a nice large size to be used for an ornament.

I’m glad you showed a size-related picture, because even though you said ball pit, I was thinking of those tiny rubber bouncy balls. These look fun and I like the bright colors.

These would look so great in a bowl. What fun and bright colors.

Those are so fun! They remind me of hackey sacks.

Thank you, @Magpie, @AIMR, @gozer, @kittykill and @MegAskunk!

They would make nice hackey sacks, but with the plastic ball inside they are too light. I’m not sure if they’d hold up a nice shape without the ball. I wrote this pattern specifically for covering the plastic ball.
My other crochet ball pattern (stuffed ball crochet pattern) might work for a hackey sack, but only if you use thin yarn, otherwise it’ll be too big.

For those of you that are going to buy pit balls, please note that they come in different sizes! This pattern calls for 7cm ones.

Congrats! Your Decorative Crochet Balls are one of this week’s featured projects. Way to go!
