Deer in winter scenery - Holiday Spectacular 2025

I recently stumbled across the illuminated shadow boxes by 3Dcuts and was very tempted to pull out my old but trusted silhouette cutter again.

My MIL likes all sorts of knickknacks and loves decorating for the holidays. I picked the deer in the forest star to make her Christmas present.

In contrast to the original I used colored cardstock for the background layers and colored the deer and pine trees with alcohol markers. I know that they are not lightfast but I hope they will last some time if they’re just put up for the holidays.

In progress:

I cut away the grass and replaced it with snow

Merry Christmas everyone!

I’m obsessed! It looks soooooooooo perfect and lovely! I wonder if alcohol marker will last longer if it’s sealed…or under resin…I may need to experiment in the new year.

Thank you!

Sealing it somehow might be worth a try. I have no idea why exactly they fade. I read somewhere that some marker dyes have a tendency to evaporate and don’t even need light to fade. If that is the case sealing should help. You’d probably have to do it from both sides, though.

If it’s light then it most likely won’t help much. If it’s just UV light than putting it behind glass should make things better.

I want to make this one for my dad’s birthday next week and I’m trying to find a frame with real glass.

I’m not quite sure if or how I want to color it.

Thank you!

It turned out to be the perfect gift. She liked it a lot. I just hope it survived the ride home as my FIL put all the gifts the got in one large bag.

My SO wanted to keep it for ourselves and said no one will see and value all the work that went into it. Well, he will get this one for his birthday.

Thank you!

There are cardboard brackets around each layer to keep them apart.

Ohhhh. It’s perfection. I could see a mantle full of these, each with a different scene in them. My MIL would absolutely love this as a gift.

I think that would be an awesome mantle decoration.

When I found that website I found so many designs that would be perfect for different family members. I’m so glad the first one turned out so well. Now I have so many ideas for this year’s birthdays.
