In contrast to the original I used colored cardstock for the background layers and colored the deer and pine trees with alcohol markers. I know that they are not lightfast but I hope they will last some time if they’re just put up for the holidays.
I’m obsessed! It looks soooooooooo perfect and lovely! I wonder if alcohol marker will last longer if it’s sealed…or under resin…I may need to experiment in the new year.
Sealing it somehow might be worth a try. I have no idea why exactly they fade. I read somewhere that some marker dyes have a tendency to evaporate and don’t even need light to fade. If that is the case sealing should help. You’d probably have to do it from both sides, though.
If it’s light then it most likely won’t help much. If it’s just UV light than putting it behind glass should make things better.
I want to make this one for my dad’s birthday next week and I’m trying to find a frame with real glass.
I think that would be an awesome mantle decoration.
When I found that website I found so many designs that would be perfect for different family members. I’m so glad the first one turned out so well. Now I have so many ideas for this year’s birthdays.
