I received this amazing die set, Tonic Studio’s Terrific Typewriter, as a gift in January and finally had the time and brain-space to dedicate to figuring out the puzzle of it all.
The directions aren’t great, so I struggled a bit. Luckily, I have made many projects with dies, but I think my experience with 3D paper projects using an electronic cutter (Cricut, in my case) helped even more. I have since found on online tutorial, of course! D’oh!
The box opens in the back and is secured with a ribbon through tabs. When I make this again, I think I will try to find a different way to close it. Perhaps something as simple as a decorative paper brad?
One thing that’s super cool about this set is that you can make it so that the roller bar actually pulls the paper into the box, so the recipient can unroll it to expose the message! I messed that up, though, so mine is stationary.
I used a set of stamps featuring vintage and antique typewriters and typewriter-ish images to give my paper some added interest, using ivory and tan inks. It’s more subtle in person. On top is a Fathers Day sentiment, stamped in black. Among the chaos is “XO VIV” from individual typewriter key stamps.
The set included an impression plate for the keyboard, as well as some sentiments in strips that would fit on the top of the box. It also has several more decorative dies, that I didn’t use this time. These is a coordinating stamp set that would stamp all this impressions, too.
I have made another typewriter box in the past with Delia, may she rest in peace, for Fathers Day that I use as a decoration in June and I think these will very cool together during Dad Season!
