I am continuing work to restore my childhood doll, Fernando. I finally gathered the courage to pluck out his eyes, then got as much of the rust out as I could. Unfortunately, in the process of getting one of his eyes out, I ripped out his eylashes, and I think they fell into the eye. There is no way to recover them, and my online searches have not given me much luck in terms of finding replacement eyelashes.
I found some sites that suggested using paintrush bristles, but they are too fine for the texture of the eylashes.
Does anyone know where I can find replacement eylashes, or have a trick I can use? His eyelashes are “blond-ish,” which complicates the matter a bit as well.
I would try looking at what kind of fake eyelashes the makeup section offers. Maybe you could cut those to size. Also if you don’t find the right shade you could consider replacing them on both eyes.
I think you might be most satisfied by replacing both eyes’ lashes - my memories of viewing Repair Shop tell me that this is what their restorers would do. This way having to find an exact match is taken off the table.
Thanks @gozer. I was trying to avoid purchasing new eyes because I’ll end up having to colour match it to his skin—I haven’t found brown eyelids… But I’m going to try to restore his eyes first.
There should be lots of eyelash options for Blythe & BJD dolls out there, though they’re likely to be a bit more expensive-- if I’m interpreting the scale right, your Fernando looks like his eyes are in about the same size range as the Blythes, and they do have blinking eyes, so possibly a search on restoring them might be useful for context.
