Donut Birthday Party!

Over the weekend we hosted Ada’s 4th birthday party. I started asking her what she wanted the theme to be, back in January. To give a capricious kid time to change her mind. But once she decided on donuts, she was set on donuts.

I picked up foil balloons, pink bunting with sprinkles, a Happy Birthday banner, cups & plates on amazon.

I also found some cute donut gift bags on amazon, and filled them with little packs of Hostess donettes, bags of freeze dried fruit, donut stickers, and donut temporary tattoos. We put them on a folding table in the entryway so guests could grab one on the way out.

In my studio, I set up an art station to keep the kids entertained. There were donuts printed on cardstock to color, and turn into magnets, and sticker sheets to let you decorate a donut.

As another way to keep the kids entertained, I made a donut toss game, out of cardboard boxes, tissue paper, and little triangular bean bags in donut and sprinkles fabrics.

I also made the table runner, from some adorable pink donut fabric I found on eBay.

After making the runner, I received the donut shirt I ordered for Adan to wear and was pretty displeased with it, so I decided at the last minute to make a donut dress with the scraps.

For food I made rainbow fruit skewers, since kids seem to love them every time I make them. I also made a ring of veggies and dip (because putting them in a round configuration makes them akin to donuts, right?). There were also a cheese board, hummus & chips, bagel pizzas (because bagel pizzas are the donuts of pizza), and mini quiche & spanakopita bites for the parents. And of course, donuts. I picked up 4 dozen at the shop around the corner at 6:15 on Sunday morning.

I did a more detailed post on the stack of donuts cake, which is made of 3 ring cakes, baked in Fat Daddio ring pans. Boxed cake mix, but home made buttercream frosting, complete with giant sprinles that I found at Michael’s.

An extra special thanks go to my MIL, @Millykay and her sister Fran, both taller ladies, who hung up the buntings and garlands and banners for me!

This is so awesome! Great job with everything! I think the donut dress is the most impressive! (It’s all awesome though)

New my hometown there was a donut shop called “Everyday Is Donut Day.” Clearly that is a lie because clearly the day of Ada’s 4th birthday party was THE donut day! Hoo-ee! All the snacks and treats! The decorations and activities! TEMPORARY TATTOOS! Dang.

Thank you Friends!

First, how can Ada be 4 already  wasn’t it just yesterday that you were holding her and trying to sew or sewing at nap time. Second, you throw the best birthday parties for her and I enjoy seeing what you do each year.

Themed parties are SO fun! It was sad for me when my kids outgrew them. Thankfully, I still get to live them vicariously through you and Ada! Donuts! What a fun theme!
