Fancy Gift Wrapping for Christmas 2025

I spent a lot of time this year wrapping presents in a :sparkles: fancy :sparkles: way and I had so much fun with it.

Some of them came out better than others, but I am especially proud of some of the bows I tied, because despite spending 7 years in the Navy, I still can’t tie a knot to save my life :joy:

The one below may be the bow I’m proudest of. I worked really hard to make it look that neat lol

The wrapping on the one below got a little wrinkly, but I’m too proud of this bow not to share this picture :joy:

The one below was likely my favourite to wrap, but I need to do a little story time to give some context on why.

As some of you know, I grew up in Brazil until age 15. In Brazil, we don’t have yellow lemons like here in Canada. These lemons are more common in colder regions. In Brazil, we have a lot of limes. Many people, my grandparents included (in whose home I lived for my last 5 years in Brazil), have a lime tree in their backyard. I called limes lemons my entire life, until someone pointed out that they are limes. The yellow ones are lemons. Well… you make do with what you have, lol.

Brazil’s national drink is the “caipirinha,” which is made with whole crushed limes, cachaça or pinga (sugar cane liquor), sugar, and ice. But if you were to translate a recipe directly from one that was written in Brazilian Portuguese for Brazilians… you would end up with it saying that you’re supposed to use lemons.

So I made a little joke of a gift for my husband.

This first present was full of limes.

Inside was a note that said,

“When life gives you lemons… but they’re actually limes…
you accept Brazilians will always call these lemons”

Then I gave him the second part of the gift:

The note inside this one said “and you just make some caipirinha”

Inside was a bottle of cachaça, which is a present and a half here, 'cause a bottle of this stuff cost me $50… When you can walk into any corner store in Brazil and get one for about R$5… lol. And you have to special order it here because it’s not popular enough for the store to carry. I had to order it a week in advance for them to send from a different store. It was worth the effort though; he was really happy with it .. and made both of us a caipirinha that same night

And here are two bonus pictures of Liam the cat enjoying a new, if temporary, “bed:”

Thanks for looking!

Thank you so much, and Merry Christmas to you also!

I’m Catholic, so it’s still Christmas until January 5th for me, so you’re not belated in your greeting

Hats of to you for pulling this off after all life has been throwing at you last year (yep, it’s 2026 when I write this)!

Oh, I do love a specially wrapped gift! I agree that it is fun to take the extra time and care to do something special and yours look lovely.

We have also found in the US that buying liquor for caipirinha is a whole different deal. TheMisterT visited Brazil a few decades ago and fell in love with them, then was so bummed when he priced cachaca back in the US! It wasn’t so hard to find in Portland, Oregon, but here in Montana I’d imagine we’d have to shop around or special order, too.

The Spanish “limon” can cause confusion with the whole lemon/lime thing, too!
