Fiber & Textile Bear Wall Quilt

When I set up our Holiday Spectacular Challenges back in December, I had planned to make each of the winners of the 6 Board Challenges, a Mug Rug with that board’s critter on it. But after a fascinating series of events, we had just 3 people, who won the 6 contests. Since I wasn’t sure if anyone would actually want to win several of the same item, I checked in with the winners. The lovely @AudiobookLover mentioned that she would love a small wall quilt to decorate her workspace. I can do that!

I used the February Block of the Month from the Quiltalong as my base. The block is called Maple Star and is available for free. I started with bear, and the website’s color palette, then dug through my stash for some good coordinates. I found a beautiful coral print from Tula Pink, and deep teal blender Fat Quarter from Walmart. The pattern on the coral was very bold, so I fussy cut it, so it would look consistant around all four bars. It was a 12" block, and I knew that I wouldn’t want the binding to cover the points of the star, so I added a narrow border of white all around. I quilted in the ditch, around the star, the coral bars and the bear.

After getting it all together, I liked it, but felt it was missing that little something extra that would make it feel finished. So I added a row of pompom trim along the inside, then added a doubled row of trim along the bottom; a white cotton fringe, and a pink mini-ball fringe over that.

I attached a row of black & white stripe, to hold the quilt hanger bar I found on Missouri Star (which is now sold out, so I linked to Amazon).

It’s gorgeous! I love the colors, the design, and every little thing. You do such beautiful work!

So cute! It’s really well made and looks very homey but also chic.

I absolutely love this little quilt!! It’s cheery and bright and it brings a smile to my face whenever I see it.
Jennie, I really like how you did corner rectangles with the white fabric and how they follow a path turning at each corner. And then there’s that additional tiny border to prevent the triangles from losing their points, oh and the way you fussy cut the diamond fabric!! These thoughtful touches make a difference in the final outcome and I really appreciate your attention to those details.
Also, I love how you added the extra embellishments! They are such perfect finishing details and the kind of thing that I would not have thought to do, but now will consider in the future.

Also - when I saw the Missouri Star box waiting by the door, I wondered what in the world I had ordered and forgotten about. Then I saw the crayon scribbles and figured it must’ve come from you and Ada. Please thank her for both the card and for decorating the box  .

Ada says you’re welcome for the extra art. She said I wasn’t allowed to mail something handmade if she couldn’t put in some art too!
