After spending parts of three hot days working on a drawing of a cute yellow duckling, I have to conclude that Polychromos colored pencils don’t work well on my new Strathmore (Toned Tan) drawing paper. Too smooth, too thin (no teeth, can’t build up enough layers).
I will try the same drawing again soon on paper that is more suitable (and expensive).
In the meantime I present my first try:
ETA July 18: I made a second drawing of this duckling (again with Polychromos colored pencils, this time on Pastelmat paper: ( Again: Duckling 01 (colored pencils) )
It is not as bad as I thought after all. Not that I think the drawing was bad, but even after at least four layers of colored pencil, you can still see the paper through the yellow. The paper just didn’t ‘take’ enough of the color.
So, one day I’ll give it another try on better paper.
