Florals from Watercolor Blobs

I sign up for free art events online, mostly to keep up with new supplies and maybe to learn some new and fun techniques. I always walk away with at least one lesson that I like a lot and will use in my own art.

I joined the Sketchbook Revival Challenge 2026 last week and have done at least one lesson a day, but nothing really grabbed me until yesterday. I followed the tutorial of artist Bindi Desai, who does these really cool abstract florals. I haven’t finished doing her actual lesson, but I did play around with her free gift of some background pages and prompts.

Here is the first one. The prompt was to start with circles.

The second one was to start with a small shape. I chose a tiny vine leaf.

These exercises have given me the confidence to paint my own backgrounds and just go for it. Really a much needed creative release after a few months of stress and sadness in my life.

If you want to try it, the event is still open until tomorrow and then will be extended until April 28. Totally free, but you do have to give your email to get the free gifts (you can unsubscribe later).

Thanks for looking! I want to do another one today, but I really need to do some adult stuff like laundry and clean! Maybe tomorrow!

Thank you. It is my favorite so far as well. There are four in the group, so I will see what I can do with the other two. Plus, you can re-do them (I made copies of the backgrounds before starting) and make your own as well. Fun exercises to do while watching crime shows (Silent Witness is now showing season 29!!)

These are quite striking!

Stunning. I particularly like the first one. Beautiful colour & line work in both.

Thank you! It really isn’t my style, but it is really quite relaxing.

I shrunk them down and made some notecards. I can write a sentiment in the white spaces.
