Edit: so I made them into an art quilt. I added the ‘advice’ that I always give my mother. Mortgage your house and spend the money on gin and toyboys-she’s never done it, and is 95 now, so I don’t think she will at this stage. But then I thought if I had the money- I care for neither gin nor toyboys, I would spend the money on fabric and paint.
I backed the quilt with a piece of this vintage blanket, they were ubiquitous in Ireland before duvets. Everyone had them, and they have a traditional vibe. The delicious irony is that this particular blanket came from a priests house.
We had a life drawing class in art college yesterday. I find life drawing pretty tedious, so for fun I decided to bring my sewing machine to do free motion stitching, instead of drawing.
It actually wasn’t too bad, tutor was intrigued and I think I’ll make a mini art quilt out of if these naked men.
Oh, these are super weird and cool and I LOVE the idea of them being part of a quilt, it’s so voyeuristic thinking of someone sleeping under this as a blankie, I am fascinated!
What a smart way to make a life drawing class you own! These are very interesting and cool. This technique has so much potential for expansion and exploration.
Omg I need you to make the naked man quilt!!! Please!!! Now I want a naked man quilt.
I think your life drawings are awesome!
Especially cuz you free-motion-sewed them! They look really good. My favorite is the guy with the stick and beard. It’s a great pose and he looks really dignified and cool.
Oh! That’s lovely! It’s very artsy and classy. I just thought it would be funny to make a full-sized traditional quilt. I understand why you’d want it to be fine Art though.
