Hadrosaur Wedding Card

Pop up dinosaur card for a couple getting married at Edelman Fossil Park in New Jersey.

(Hadrosaurus foulkii is the official state dinosaur).

My husband asked me to make this for a coworker. I severly underestimated how long it would take to design, cut, and assemble this card.

I found illustrations of ferns and bushes that then had to be arranged, sized, and cut from 7 different blues and greens. I found an illustration of a hadrosaur, digitally colored it, then created an outline trace and printed-then-cut the dinosaurs. I created grass (from yet another green) and the background sand, and cut them.

I considered several different mechanisms for the card to give it depth, then settled for a simple box pop up.

He requested a large message area for good wishes from their coworkers.

A simple box pop up for the front foliage.

I couldn’t think of anything clever to put on the front (“For the dino-mite couple” was the best I could come up with, ugh) so I went with dino tracks.

Wow, this is amazing! Your cards are just out of this world!

My son just got engaged and is Dino- obsessed. He actually works at a fossil shop! I might need to see about chatting with you more in depth about this process….!

That’s stunning. The various layers and paper really bring the card to life and it looks soooo good! I love the design amd the dino tracks on the front are the perfect solution. Such a unique card.

I will gladly share the cut files for the ferns and bushes and such. The dinosaur I colored with the help of ChatGPT, which was a new experience. I gave prompts like: Please color this in greens and blues. Make the colors lighter. Change the blue to brown. Make the brown darker. And on and on until I had two dinos that I liked.

Your cards are so amazing, Carol. I’d expect to see something like this for sale in a fancy museum shop. Really cool!

this is beautiful! I love the variation in leaf patterns and colors of the foliage!

Gorgeous card! I really like how you did the pop-up for the foliage; I think I’ll try this method next time I try a pop-up card.
