Raising my hand because I have the same kind of asthma, and there is a name for it, although I can’t remember what it is. Just reading your post made me cough in sympathy. I’m 59 by the way, so it definitely can happen after 40.
@LindyBlues silent asthma with no wheezing is very real. I heard about it when I was in my 40’s with severe cough but no wheezing after misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis. They said I had everything from bronchitis to COPD to GERD! Turned out it wasn’t silent asthma but a severe allergy to lawn grass pollen. Doctors need to stop dismissing people when they are just trying to get better.
It is called cough-variant asthma. This is what I had as a child. Technically it creates no symptoms other than coughing, but can progress into more symptoms later in life, which is what has happened to me. I have every asthma symptom in the book except for wheezing. I do wheeze when I forcefully push air out (such as before taking my inhalers), or currently if I laugh and/or just at the end of a cough. But for some reason my lungs do not make that sound.
Yep. People can develop asthma at any time. I have had it since I was a kid… but because of not wheezing, I didn’t get a proper diagnosis until I was almost 30. That doesn’t mean I wasn’t struggling to breathe my whole life prior…. I was lucky I didn’t get any full-on attacks as a kid.
Yeah… I’m honestly at the point I don’t want to go back to the hospital unless I’m unconscious and can’t speak for myself. It’s just way too much trauma on top of trauma otherwise…
I will be OK.
I can absolutely relate to that. Back when I lived in another city I had some really bad experiences in one specific hospital and said that if I’d ever go there again is when they bring me by ambulance. Then one day my son’s daycare called that he had an accident and needed to go to a hospital. I arrived at the same time as the ambulance and asked where they planned to take him. The answer was that exact hospital. Fortunately the paramedics noticed my reaction before I even said a word and offered another option after asking where we lived.
Just wanted to report back that @magpie is fine, just super busy! She’ll be back when she gets a chance to craft and has her computer on hand! Yay!
Thanks for letting us know ![]()
Hey everyone,
Just a heads up that Canada Post is on strike again. So if you’re planning on sending any mail to Canada, maybe hang on to it for a bit. If you’ve sent something in the past week or so, just be aware that it may be quite some time before it gets here.
@thanate Looks like I can’t join the ATC swap. Hopefully next month.
Ooh, I got a postcard from @Tapestry Thank you!!
I got one, too! Very scary because I remember tales of this creature when I was a child!! I’ll post a pic soon when the sun come up… ![]()
I got one too! ![]()
I received a wonderful Happy Halloween card from @wittychild !
Thank you very much!
I got lovely happy mail today from @megwell it made my day. I haven’t sent out any happy mail in ages, let me know if you want to receive some from me.
The Canada Post strike is sort of over, and I’ve been receiving some happy mail from folks here as well as @LovelyMiss ‘s letter writing group.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to help me have a smile during a rough time.
My husband is thankfully doing very well, but I am still recovering from some very strange health things… including an ER visit that went badly in terms of medical treatment (or lack thereof) that triggered a lot of medical neglect trauma.
I think I’m finally somewhat recovered from the saga, and my asthma seems to be under control again, though there seems to be other health issues going on ![]()
Having said all that, I’m feeling much better and I think the mail may go out a tad more quickly again, so I will try to get back to letter writing in November. I need some more crafting and art in my life.
Thank you all for doing what you do and being who you are. Your support means the world to me.
I would love to receive some if you have the time ![]()
I will try to get started on writing some as well, this week.
I think I want to join in again. I really miss this craftalong.
A big goal of mine is to send out birthday/anniversary cards this year. Sooo…if anyone wants a bday card, message me your birthday and address. ![]()
