CLOSED: Harry Potter Craftalong - Ostara 2020

Hereā€™s my tangled chain of yarn onstage. I was so proud of my daughter. She did such a good job portraying Helen Keller. I think sheā€™s a little sad that the show is over. Iā€™m thinking about using the yarn to make something for her.

I am adding a new way for you to earn a 10 point bonus on projects! In addition to the 10 point bonus option for SPEW projects, you now have the ability to earn a 10 point bonus on projects created as part of Lettuce Craft board & site challenges. If you scroll up to the top, you will see that the line for SPEW in the Project Header now reads:

But Jennie, how do I find out about LC Challenges?

Glad you asked! New threads, including new Challenges, show up as ā€œNewā€ at the top of the homepage, and Challenges are generally pinned at the top of their respective boards. In addition, I have added an ongoing list of Current Lettuce Craft Challenges on the Crafty Shenanigans Board. Please note, the ā€œContestsā€ section of the Shenanigans Board is actually for future site-wide contests, not board-specific challenges. But I figured it would be helpful to those who got turned around looking for things.

Can I double up on the bonus points?

If your project fulfills an LC challenge, AND it is going to a legitimate charity, it is possible to earn both 10 point bonuses. Meaning you can earn 15 base points for fulfilling a prompt + 10 point bonus for an LC challenge + 10 point bonus for a SPEW donation = for a total 35 points. But please take this seriously. You might craft an awesome piece of miniature art for the Miniaturize Your Craft challenge, but that doesnā€™t mean itā€™s something that a womenā€™s shelter or a hospital needs as a donation. It must honestly work for both to get both sets of bonus points.

Class or Challenge Title: Herbology

Project Name & Page Link: Scented Victorian Lavender Bookmark
Brief Description: While I was studying Moonwort for Herbology this semester I came across another herb with purple flowers! Similar to moonwort it can also inspire love and the banishment of bad feelings.
Project Picture: (More pictures and info in the linked post!)

And since I have no cross-stitch chillā€¦Iā€™m about to embark on ANOTHER cross stitch starting this evening so I figured Iā€™d propose it for my second Advanced Studies.

~ ADVANCED STUDIES PROPOSAL ~
Project Name: ā€œGrow Your Ownā€
House: Gryffindor
Brief Description: I had a hard time choosing my next pattern but in the end this one won. So instead of doing actual gardening like I should be doing Iā€™m going to do this instead. The pattern is from the April issue of Cross Stitcher Magazine and predicts 47 hours of stitching time. Totally Advanced Studies worthy in my opinion. Lol. Hereā€™s the finished picture from the magazine of what it should look like:

@Whistlefish yes, 47 hours more than qualifies! Your proposal has been added to the AS project log.

I realised that itā€™s the last day of the month, and that there are some challenges that ends today! So here are two before the deadline.

Class or Challenge Title: Headmistress Monthly Prompts - Fan mail challenge
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Purple valentine drink
Brief Description: Valentine is a day of love, and I really love my son, so I decided to make him something special. He loves pretty looking food and drinks, and this is no exception. I made the drink and he decorated it (and the tray) with sprinkles.
So, I fund this one recipe for a hot chocolate, it looked interesting. Of course I didnā€™t have all the things in the recipe, and because I was lazy and didnā€™t want to head out I decided to use what I had. There is no raspberry syrup, but I thought maybe I could make some berry syrup with blueberries and red currants I had in the freezer (I added a bunch to a pot, added some water and a bunch of sugar and used the thicker ā€œsauceā€ in the drink and the berries on oatmeal) , instead of pink the drink ended up a pretty purple colour. I also didnā€™t have any whipped cream, so I decided to make some with coconut cream and powdered sugar, which I also had to make because I was out of thatā€¦ in the end the drink tasted like coconut and some white chocolate, which is fine by me because I love coconut flavour.

Class or Challenge Title: Iron Chef Challenges
House: Slytherin
Project Name & Page Link: Healthy granola bars
Brief Description: Iā€™m looking for easy snacks/lunch options for my son and thought that this might be a great option. I followed the recipe, changing it up slightly by adding chia seeds and linseed, I thought of adding more but decided against it this time.
I also had fun making the cupcake liners, which I think worked out perfect, Iā€™ll certainly make them again later.

The Slytherin Scavenger Hunt starts tomorrow. Iā€™ll be posting the prompts later tonight!

:zap: A new Headmistress Prompt has been posted! :zap:

The Slytherin Scavenger Hunt is underway! All the prompts have been posted in the Slytherin common room at the beginning of the thread.

There are 15 prompts and a cool prize package to be won by those of you who choose to participate! The Hunt will go until March 31st at midnight central standard time. As always these do not count for house points. But can be combined with class and challenge prompts.

Happy hunting!!!

Not sure if itā€™s just me, but couldnā€™t find it.
I thought it would be with the February one, but doesnā€™t seem to be?
Might just be me/my technology :woman_shrugging:t2:

Just had another look - the new one is there, but still says February.
Will there be a new Iron Chef challenge too?

Yep! Hereā€™s the :woman_cook: :shallow_pan_of_food: :hocho: March Iron Chef :hocho: :shallow_pan_of_food: :woman_cook: prompt!

@MistressJennie will update the main post when she can!

Hi @GMPNQ. The Slytherin Scavenger Hunt is there. Itā€™s not in the Craft Prompts post. Itā€™s a few posts below in the Slytherin Common Room.

The new Headmistress prompt for March simply had a typo. Iā€™ll fix it to say March, rather than February. And yes, thereā€™s a new Iron Chef prompt. Sometimes prompts that start on a new month might take 1 extra day to show up. Weā€™re all real people, and sometimes life happens, and we donā€™t get to it the first day. :slightly_smiling_face:

I am particularly bad when the 1st falls on a weekend. :upside_down_face: Thanks for the patience, friends! :slightly_smiling_face:

Class or Challenge: Astronomy
House: Gryffindor
Project Name & Page Link: Wide Open Pouch
Brief Description: I know what youā€™re thinking - what the heck does this pouch have to do with a dragon? Well, for my homework assignment I decided to challenge a dragon. (i.e. tackling a project thatā€™s hard for me to beat and out of my comfort zone). I know it may not seem like much but Iā€™m not a super good sewer. I get along fine-ish, but itā€™s not my wheelhouse. Zippers and liners seem so fiddly to me because I rarely do them but the real battle this time seemed to be the dang ā€œwide openā€ corners. I had a heck of a time getting the fabric to pinch correctly so I could mark it off and sew it. I shall not let this dragon beat me thoughā€¦i already picked out some fabric to battle this dragon again.

Project Name & Page Link: Green Miniature Dragon Egg Dice Bag

Class or Challenge Title: Hermioneā€™s Book Club - Chapter 2
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Gloriously Pink Unicorn Bracelet
Brief Description: Iā€™m not much of a fan of the color pink. I donā€™t know why, I just donā€™t like it. The one possible exception, is rose quartz. I love rose quartz, so I picked up a long strand on sale from my favorite bead vendor. As part of my stash busting mission, I decided to see what I could do with it, and decided on a simple memory wire bracelet. I found it was a bit TOO simple, so after getting some advice from @StudioANF, I added in some gold jump rings, and some enamel charms of moons, stars and unicorns. Itā€™s not quite my style, but I do love how gloriously, unabashedly pink it is.

Class or Challenge Title: Potions
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Artisan Heart Earrings
Brief Description: Earlier last month, I was feeling a bit at a loss of what to craft. I knew I wanted to used up some stash, and especially use some of my extra fancy schmancy beads. So I joined the Thing A Day Craftalong to give myself a little push. These two pairs of earrings helped me push myself out of my crafting rut!

Class or Challenge Title: DADA
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Pumpkin Paisley Skirt
Brief Description: I bought some recycled sari wrap skirts from Darn Good Yarn. I love their skirts, but you are usually buying a mystery skirt. You send your size and length needs, and a note about your favorite colors, and one of the workers at the warehouse picks one out for you. In this instance I got two mystery skirts, and felt like the contrasting underskirts did NOT match the overskirts well, BUT they matched the OTHER skirt quite well. So I used my pointy & sharp seam ripper to take them apart, and sharp needles to sew them back together. Meanwhile since they are silk, they were very smooth and slippery. So the deep pumpkin underskirt of this one, was originally under the black & magenta of the next skirt. And the mauve seen in that one, was with this paisley. I think they match one another much better now.

Class or Challenge Title: Detention - WIP
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Black & Purple Skirt
Brief Description: These poor skirts were WIPs for ages. I started the alterations in November, but the holidays came up, and then the site change, and it it took forever to get them finished. For this one, and the one above, I took the waist bands off, unstitched the layers, took out the poorly done French seams which had huge blobs of tan thread all over them, restitched the French seams, swapped the underskirts, took off about 15" of width around the body (they were a size too big), relayered them, reattached the waist bands, added new button holes, and hemmed them with a lettuce edge finish on my serger. Doesnā€™t the mauve look better under the black & magenta?
Project Picture:

Class or Challenge Title: Detention - Reparo
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name & Page Link: Purple & Gold Skirt
Brief Description: This skirt wasnā€™t a mystery. I bought it in one of their FB live sales, knowing it was a size too big. Iā€™m right in between their plus size and goddess size, so I decided to give goddess a try. It was just wayyy to much fabric for me. So I partially unstitched the waist band, cut off about 15" of width around the body, then restitched the new edges, reattached the waist band, shortened one end of the ties (the one that was now too long), and then hemmed both with a better thread match. You canā€™t tell from this picture, but the gold layer has heat set rhinestones around the hem. Theyā€™re so pretty!
