Harry Potter Craftalong - Ostara 2023

I hope you have a great summer, @MistressJennie ! I go in spurts, because I do feel that posting can be a chore, but I love seeing what everyone comes up with, and I enjoy the prompts. I’ve had a lovely time, even when I’ve just been lurking.

I’ll just share what I’ve been doing lately  The grapefruit slice scarf is made from a pattern in Twinkie Chan’s book “Crochet Goodies for Fashion Foodies.”
I made it for a last-minute “Fruit Salad Friday” theme at work and it got a lot of love. I’ve worn it a couple times now, but at this point, I think I need to iron it, lol.

Other than that, I’ve mostly been developing knitting patterns for tiny Obitsu11 and cu-poche sized dolls.

And so this term of the HP Craftalong is over. As I mentioned, we will be taking a summer break. I will check back in late summer, here in this thread, to see if people are interested in a new round of the Craftalong, perhaps with a new setup.

In the mean time, I am wondering about how each of us crafts for this Along, and have set up a poll to gather info.

  • I am completely inspired to craft things based totally on the prompts as written here.
  • I sometimes am inspired to craft things based on a prompt I find here. Sometimes I craft what I want and find a prompt I can fit it to after.
  • I craft whatever I want, whenever I want, and afterwards I come figure out which prompt it could fill.

I am considering either eliminating, or greatly reducing the prompts if we do a future term. The idea being to keep everyone sharing whatever they feel like making, whenever they create it. I know some people save up their projects, until they have time to look at the list of prompts, and find categories each fit into. The change would cause us be be more like the Snapshot Thread, where each of us shares as we finish something. (So unlike the Snapshot thread, they would not be in-process shares, but completed projects.) Folks would still earn House Points per completed project, and each project would have the minimum time requirement of 30 minutes, as we always have.

For those who do enjoy a little added inspiration, I’d consider doing a small handful of prompts, probably similar to Headmistress, and maybe the Book Club series. How do you guys feel about that idea?

  • I think I’d participate a lot more if I could just post a finished project, without matching it to a prompt.
  • I may or may not participate more, without specific prompts. My life is just busy, and I’m not sure that will change.
  • I wouldn’t like dropping our prompt categories, because it wouldn’t feel like the HPC anymore.

Congrats again Gryffs!

Thanks for setting up the poll, Jennie, and being so thoughtful in how we move forward. I voted!

Go Gryffs!

I am finding that outside influences/stresses have made me less crafty of late- i’m busy but not more than the average bear, but I am finding it hard to finish (start, do) crafts right now. I also tend to pick more long term projects (like a sweater) so they take extra-forever.

I like the idea of fewer prompts for several reasons- general housekeeping for the leader for one, and perhaps it would encourage more active participation for another, kind of like the general craft-alongs seem to have. Maybe a few categories rather than all specific prompts with added challenges for more specific goals is a good way. I loved the old swaps like Madam Malkins and I Want to Live at The Burrow, maybe a few categories like things you’d find in specific locations could be broader inspiration prompts.

Just some thoughts as I sit on my porch, yarn adjacent, avoiding my housework of the day…

Congrats to Gryffindor!

I know I would post more if we dont have prompts, as I dont always find a way to get some of my project to fit. But I do love the prompts and to plan and try to make a thing specific for the prompt.

Your idea with a small handful of prompts sounds good too, that way we dont loose it! And maybe its easier to make something for a prompt if you dont have lots of others to choose from.

Congrats Gryffindor! :trophy:

I voted! I think it would be easier to post if we could just put pics, but I also love the prompts. Maybe people could post inspiration prompts, but nothing would have to be tied to them? Sometimes they really get my creative juices flowing and make me try something outside of my normal intentions. There wouldn’t necessarily have to be a prompt for every class, but if someone felt inspired to add one they could? Just kind of thinking out loud here…

Hello Friends! Well, the summer is nearly over, and as promised, I’m here to ask how you all are feeling, and what you would like to see happen with the HPC. I’ve taken your suggestions to heart over the last few months, and have pondered ways to make participation easier, and hopefully more joyful. Are folks interested in seeing the HPC return? Or have you moved onto other craftalongs or fandoms? Are there any ideas for the HPC you’ve thought of over the last few months you’d like to share?

I would like it to return. But maybe on an easier level, maybe not as many prompts, so that the prompt-makers can have just fun and not stress too much about being super creative with the prompts.
I do miss to have a craftalong to plan for, even though my plans not always got made.

I dont know if it is possible to do something like the Nerd-craftalong, with a couple of classes being the main event each season (classes that rotates, so next season its other classes), and then we get a Headmistress prompt each month. Or something like that?
I do like to have many classes and all the things that the old HP-craftalong had. And more prompts during Xmas and everything. But I do understand that is a bit much.

Definitely looking forward to it coming back in any form!

Would love to see it back! Even if we are just posting stuff and making up what class it would be for.

The magic continues…
