Holiday Cookie Recipe Card Swap - SU 10/2-16, SO 11/6

Holiday Cookie Recipe Card Swap :cookie: :snowflake:

Do you have a favorite holiday cookie recipe you make every year? Maybe it’s a family recipe passed down for generations, the cookies everyone asks you to bring to the holiday party, or just something ridiculously delicious that deserves to be shared. Let’s swap recipes!

For this swap, we’ll each make a handmade and decorated recipe card featuring a favorite holiday cookie recipe and send it to our partner. Cards can be illustrated, stamped, collaged, painted, printed and embellished, hand-lettered, or decorated using whatever crafty skills you’d like to bring to the kitchen table.

You can choose to swap with 1, 2, or 3 partners, making a different recipe card for each.

Because these are small and flat enough to mail in a standard envelope, this is an international-friendly swap, and everyone signing up should be willing to send internationally.

Sign-ups: October 2–16
Partners assigned: October 16
Send-outs: November 6

SWAP DETAILS

:snowflake: Make one handmade/decorated holiday cookie recipe card for each partner.

:snowflake: Choose 1, 2, or 3 partners.

:snowflake: Wait until partners are assigned before making your final recipe cards! This will give you a chance to tailor your recipe to your recipient by avoiding allergens or flavors they dislike and using measurements that make sense in their country.

:snowflake: Your recipe can celebrate any winter holiday or tradition. Christmas cookies, Hanukkah treats, Yule goodies, New Year favorites, family traditions, or simply something you love baking during the holiday season.

:snowflake: The recipe itself does not need to be original. Family recipes, cookbook favorites, recipes you’ve adapted over the years, and tried-and-true recipes from other sources are all fine. If appropriate, please credit the source.

:snowflake: Recipe cards can be any reasonable size, but keep mailing in mind. The goal is for these to be inexpensive to send in an envelope.

:snowflake: This is a swap for all skill levels, but please put your best effort into making something your partner will enjoy adding to their recipe collection.

:snowflake: Tracking is not required for this paper swap. If your recipe card goes missing in transit, you will need to make and send a replacement.

I took a friend to a thrift store today, and there was a stack of cookbooks and cookbook pages - lying loose. I grabbed the whole stack - figured i could get the cookbook and throw the worn out pages in. They hadn’t been priced yet so he gave me the entirety for 75 cents. The old “loose” pages turned out to be most of what appeared to be a VERY well- used cookbook (mostly intact - sorta) from Future Homemakers of America, Sidney Montana chapter - with 16 student members, 4 adults. One member was born in 1957. It includes Beautitudes of Housewives, How to get along with people… I haven’t figured out a date yet, but here’s a photo from one of the advertisers

My intent was cool paper for crafting. Now I might just have to keep it forever. And try some of the recipes. I think the cookie pages are somewhat intact lol

Anyone already brainstorming cookie recipes you want to try?

Recently the cookie shop my kids and I LOVE, Chip City, closed its doors. No more Dubai Chewywich sandwich cookies. No more scrumptious S’mores thinwich cookies for us. I’m determined to make a decent substitute for each!

mostly i’m just thinking about cookies and what people like best…do y’all consider bars and squares cookies? what about no-bakes? i’m not overly fussy and pretty much consider anything thats not pie, cake or tarts close enough.

i’m currently going to smash some dough thats been in my freezer for far too long into a pan and sprinkle it with sliced almonds to take to the inlaws tomorrow and see how that goes. i’m thinking maybe a lemon drizzle afterwards, but i best get after it because i think we’re leaving early tomorrow and banana bread has also been requested.

Banana bread is always a fave in our house. I hope your visit goes well!

As for bars and no-bakes - I’d consider nobake cookies still cookies for sure. Bars is a harder one…biscotti is almost a bar. I’ve seen bar shaped cookies that are clearly cookies. But a brownie or blondie, for example, is definitely not a cookie. It’s hard to pin down what makes a cookie a cookie though! It isn’t shape, texture, cooking method, portioning, size, ingredients, or presentation. Pecan tassies are clearly mini tarts and yet those are considered a cookie. It’s culinary chaos!
