Thank you guys…I am glad my sister is here to cheer us both up. He was in good spirits last night and hopes to play drums this weekend.
The burden of fixing up the house still rests on my shoulders, but I am happy to do it as a distraction.

The cabinets are all done! My builder jumped through a ridiculous number of hoops to make that happen, too. He’s plumbing my kitchen and bathroom sinks, and the dishwasher today.
Tiling tomorrow.
And I got my little cleaning closet set up. I put together the rolling shelves this morning - we have to have access to the attic (behind the pegboard), so we occasionally need to pull everything out…can’t have permanent shelving.
Oooh, gorgeous colour! Love all the drawers, too.
Thank you! It’s discontinued.
Read back a few posts for that drama. I’m really excited to have drawers. I think it’ll be easier on my joints than having to crouch down to get into the bottom cabinets.
The tile is mostly in. There may not be enough due to a slight miscalculation. Not my builder’s fault! The cabinet guy apparently used the square footage from the first draft of the layout, but we had him move the cabinets up six inches on the wall with the oven and that added more than 2 sq.ft. This tile is, thankfully, still available.
Your kitchen is looking soooo nice!
Thank you!
I am still waiting for materials to finish up the trim work on the Big Bookcase Project, but I was able to do a test run for the shelves using the pieces that were left over from building the boxes!
I have 3 more 4x8 sheets of plywood to make shelves with; 12 shelves/sheet. They are trimmed out with a piece of screen moulding to cover the plies and add a bit of extra strength against bowing. Because they’re not fixed, they can be flipped when they start to bow, though!
I’ll need TheMisterT’s help ripping down the 4x8s into 2x8s, then I can do the rest on my own. We each have some other things going on the next few days, so I might be at a holding pattern until Sunday. The rest of the trim pieces should be delivered next week, but hopefully I’ll get some shelves cranked out in the mean time. I have enough clamps to attach trim to 5-6 at a time.
Love your cleaning closet! Seems like you did some serious planning to get that included!
Your entire house will soon be made to your specifications and you can start enjoying it with family and friends!
You’re almost in the home stretch and they look sooooo good! They’re going to be beautiful when you’re done.
Update: There was enough tile! It feels like a little miracle because the builder and I both thought we’d be at least two sheets short.
Well, you did ask the patron saint of lost causes for some prayers, right? Looks like St. Jude delivered!
You’re right, I did! So thankful for it, too!
Gorgeous!! I’m so glad everything worked out in the end!
Stunning my dear!
Thank you! I am, too.
Now comes the hard work for me. I have to start migrating things back to their places, decluttering again, and acquiring or making the last bits of furniture and draperies to finish the rooms.
I want that “it’s a wrap” strange feeling.
The doors came in and one drawer front was the.wrong style, there was a double for the vottom of the pantry door, one is warped and the other has a finish issue. The new hinges are not fitting right and the old hinges don’t quite fit. I was hoping to have doors this weekend. Sigh.
I can’t bring myself to ‘like’ your post because… OH, NO! When it rains, it pours. That is just so much.
@tendstowardschaos Erin. Seriously. It is beautiful! I hope you have fun nesting into it and using it for years to come.
@marionberries I am also sending supportive vibes but not hitting “like.”
I hope this is the last big hurdle for your project and sooner than you expect you, too, will be relishing a fresh new kitchen space in your home.
@tendstowardschaos Thanks! Slow and semi-steady over here. Maybe by the end of July it’ll be done. Your kitchen is gorgeous! And it seems that the tile miracle balanced the cabinet snafus (kind of). It’s so exciting when the construction is done, but then all the rest of the work is yours. D’oh!
@marionberries How frustrating! Sooooo close and then… POW. Ugh. I have been struggling with other peoples’ mistakes the materials all along this bookcase project.
