I recently discovered Cava pita chips. Pure heaven because they’re crispy and soft and perfectly seasoned. Unfortunately they’re also deep fried and I can’t eat out every day in any case. So I searched the internet and adapted my own recipe from several others.
Recipe for 1-2 Servings
1 pita, cut into sections
Canola or olive oil spray*
1 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp lemon pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tiny pinch cayenne (optional)
Preheat oven to 375° F.
Mix all seasonings together in a small resealable container.
Cut pitas into small sections (I like mine just a bit bigger than bite-size). Spray very lightly with canola or olive oil (if not using spray, put cut pitas in a bowl and lightly toss with a drizzle of olive oil). If you used the oil spray flip pitas and spritz the other side. Sprinkle lightly with spice mixture. You’ll have left over spices for several more pitas and future use.
Bake for five minutes. Flip and bake an additional 3-4 minutes until edges are well browned but pitas aren’t too crisp.
Serve with your favorite hummus or other topping.
*you can use a drizzle or two of olive oil and just toss the pita sections with it if you prefer.
I should know better than looking at the Food & Drink category before breakfast. these look yummy!
A lot of street food type of places here fry the end parts of their pitas and have them on the counter for people to munch on while waiting for their order. It’s yummy, but oh so not healthy. This looks like a much saner option.
