So this fabric was part of my bday present haul (my husband now thinks he “knows how much you can spend” at the fabric store, like i WASN’T being budget conscious - just under $500 because i went halves on it - sweet, silly man hahaha)
ANYWAY. I picked this up along with a solid blue (part of a set, so perfect match). it is a heavy waterproof material, as i want a raincoat. the pattern i’m going to use is the one i always use hahha thusly:
It’s going to be Extra. I can’t even help it anymore … the heart wants what the heart wants. But, I gotta say … that floral will be a LOT in a full length (and it will be the wind here is stoopid), even toned down with the blue accents.
Will it be Too Much? You can’t really hurt my feelings, i’m still going to do it , but i think my family is too laid back for real world opinions.

I say it is a bold nose thumb to weather and wind! You may as well enjoy wearing something you love as you battle the elements!
What kind of things do you have to be aware of to sew this kind of fabric? Is it thick? Slippery? Any special needles or thread? What is the lining fabric?
I love what you did with your autumn coat…the back lacing. Will this one have the same back? Once you have a good pattern, it becomes a workhorse and making it again and again is so good!
agreed, this is my Go To. i have at least 3 more in this pattern floating in my head. i can’t draft patterns to save my life, but i can alter pre-existing ones well enough for me
I’m good for the supplies, i might leave it unlined … but that means flat felling all the seams, and i’m pathologically lazy, so we will see. the corset back will be too bulky with this pattern, but i like the width in the shoulders - i might do buckles, as i like to layer sweaters and like having room.

In my opinion it’s perfect for a raincoat. Grey weather needs colorful clothes.
If I was to make it, I would make view D in length B (but that’s just because I can’t bike in a full length coat) and do the collar in the blue accent fabric.
i 100% agree …. winter here lasts roughly forever, and i do get tired of seeing plain dark coats everywhere i LIKE colour - as i am sure is obvious.
I’m really inspired by the idea of kimono, of having clothes being the background to art … i like the idea of incorporting nature themes, especially … i might do some kind of applique idea with the solid blue, along the hem - i’ll let that percolate for a bit
ty for all the good vibes, btw - i appreciate the positive affirmations of my own inclinations hahahaha
I think colour is also very important for safety! I don’t know why makers of outdoor wear don’t know that. My raincoat is barbie pink and I’ve had it forever. I’m sure I’m much more visible in rain and darkness than someone in a grey coat.

That is a great point! Why do they make black umbrellas when it is so hard for drivers to see people in pouring rain? I am sure a bright yellow, green or pink would be seen much easier!
I am OBSESSED with this fabric - it is going to be a glorious statement jacket. I would love to see a suit! I would probably add sequins and seed beads to the flowers - but I have always been known to be a bit extra!
