I put this under drawing, but it’s technically mixed media.
Yesterday was the last day of the 6-week “Art of Illustration” program at the library. The theme was people, and we were encouraged to use any media available to create people/characters, etc. The programmer showed us several examples of different types illustrations of people by different artists, one of whom was Vanessa Brantley-Newton. The programmer also showed an excerpt of a video of Vanessa showing how she makes a collage for a character’s face.
I was inspired by her video and by her super-happy photo a the back of one of the books to illustrate her instead of an imaginary character.
Her face and body are crayons and watercolour pencils, and the clothes are collage. And by her video, I feel like this is an outfit she would 100% wear
It’s not a perfect likeness, of course, but that’s not really what I was going for. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out!
