I started this piece early last spring, and then stalled out. I am taking the Making Zen Online Retreat! and one of the videos by Rebekah Johnston - Traces of Touch: Exploring Layering, Texture, and Motif inspired me to start pulling out fabric for a new piece. I came across this UFO and decided to finish this landscape for our church’s Fall art show. Most of the entries are photos, pastels, or paintings, so I love entering something different.
Fabric, yarn, lace, and old tatting or crochet. I sketch out my basic design on a piece of muslin, then start adding fabric layers and machine-stitching the heck out of it. Then the layering begins, then more layering, finding bits to add, adding paint or pastels or watercolor. More layering, more stitching. Whew. Here it is.
This is absolutely gorgeous! I love all the layers and how well the landscape comes together. And of course the sunflower is my favourite, but I love the whole thing
