I’m a sucker for vintage flashcards. I always dig through them at antique malls, vintage stalls, etc. I found “Make” and “something funny” at the same store, in different areas, on the same day and knew I had to figure out a way to display them.
I spent hours gluing all the googly eyes to the black backer that came with this thrifted frame, then I went on a trip, and this sat for months. I used a white paint pen to add white dots where there were larger gaps between the googlies.
Then a couple weeks ago I started getting the bug to finish this thing up! I dug through all my stashes hoping to find something that gave me a giggle to cover the frame with. For some reason painting it didn’t appeal to my funny bone. I ended up buying a set of animal print paper napkins and using one leopard print napkin to decoupage the frame. NOT FUNNY ENOUGH! Rick-rack might not be funny, but it is jolly and that’s pretty close. First I found the large green rick-rack and liked the look of it peeking out from behind the frame, giving it a cheery scalloped look. Then I found the pink and liked how it almost fit into the depression on the front surface of the frame as well as how it looked with the leopard and the green.
I used matte Mod Podge to adhere the napkin, but did not top coat it. I used it to attach the pink rick-rack to the napkin. I tried it with the green, but it didn’t want to work, so I switched to an E6000 brand fabric adhesive. Finishing it inspired me to go ahead and hang a few things up in my “new” craft lab which is still in progress.
