Over in the Quiltalong this year, I’ve been offering quarterly prize packs to all participants who either get a bingo in our Quiltalong Bingo game or earn a certain amount of points by completing projects. For the second quarter, I created the Maker/Destructor prize pack:
I used Silhouette Studio to create/edit the stickers. The seam ripper sticker is based on a design I came across on Etsy and the Maker sticker features one of my favorite fun fonts. As for the Out of Order sticker it started life as an embroidery design. Earlier this year, when looking into purchasing the Business Edition of Silhouette Studio, I discovered that it allows users to import embroidery files into the software and convert them into SVG files (how had I not known that previously!?). So after purchasing the Business Edition, I imported the Out of Order embroidery file and proceeded to edit the design to represent a sewing machine (vs. an embroidery machine). The importation of the file wasn’t perfect - there were quite a few lines missing from the design - but it definitely simplified the process of transforming an embroidery design into a printable graphic design. I have since used that function to transform an embroidery file into an SVG so that instead of hand cutting the design, I was able to cut it out with my laser!
For the included comic, I just printed out a couple of Bobblin comics created by Embroidery Library and attached them to the front and back of some Bobblin blue cardstock.
One of the comics:
I really enjoyed creating this prize pack and coming up with the various elements to represent the Maker/Destructor aspects.
I have since gotten behind and haven’t even completed the 3rd quarter prize packs yet, but I’ve been working on them. Be on the lookout for a future post featuring the “Keeping it Together” Prize Pack.

You are the master of themed projects! I loved everything about this prize package! It was fun, funny and functional as well (fabric is always welcomed in my house!).
I figured I am never going to be able to fight bobbin, so I have him sitting above my desk watching over my sewing. Maybe he will behave since I have given him a prime spot!
Thank you for all you do in the quiltalong. It has been my favorite “along” for inspiring and motivating me to do more sewing projects!
That being said, I better get to my goal list as I really want to win the 4th quarter surprise as well!
These are so absolutely stunning. I have my little Bobblin from you on my desk, right beneath my computer monitor. (He likes to hide under it like a cave, to nibble on his stolen bobbins in peace, before he has to run around causing havoc again.) Ada likes to come into my studio, and ask politely to say hello to him. She gives him a hug and kiss, and then puts him back in his cave.
I’m hoping we can do some work on my studio over the winter. Paint the awful grey walls, hang some curtains, rearrange the furniture into a better layout, and maybe even put up a decorative Design Wall. When I do, I want to feature your embroidered cards as art.
Thank you for all the inspiration in the Quiltalong!
I was lucky enough to snag one of these in STS and I love it to bits! The bobblin is hanging out on my work monitor and makes me smile every day. I’m still plotting where to use the cute stickers and settling on a project for the fabric.
Congrats on the feature! Those little bobblins are adorable (and -alas!- I know their habits so well!) Love the little cards with their cute thread tangles. (Can’t believe I just called thread tangles “cute”!)
Thank you for the feature!! And thank you everyone for all of your thoughtful comments!
Thank you, @AIMR for your kind words! I really enjoy coming up with ideas for the Quiltalong and for the prize packs and it’s makes me happy to know that you enjoy both!
@MistressJennie, I love that sweet Ada enjoys the Bobblin, that whole scenario makes me smile . I find joy in making the various aspects of the prize packs and I like the idea of the cards finding new life as wall art! Also, I love that pic of the Bobblin in his cave .
@Tapestry, I’m so glad that you were happy with the Bobblin surprise pack that you got in STS. Just be wary, he’s known for creating chaos with sewing supplies, but if you keep your paint in the same room as him, I cannot be held responsible for what may happen .
I still have a couple of extra packs. So I’m going to send one to my mom when I get back from Thanksgiving break (because who wouldn’t want a Bobblin showing up unexpectedly on their doorstep ).
