I hadn’t seen this post until now, and oh my goodness, I may actually be able to make this one! We were planning a trip to Varna, IL at the beginning of July, and it’s only another 1.5 hours (driving) from there to Champaign… so I may be able to coordinate the two things and do both 
I’d probably drive from Kingston, ON, so if any other Canucks near Kingston or on the route wanna hitch a ride, I’m up for company in the car, and potentially someone to split a hotel room with. Though I might just stay at my sister’s and then make the drive, but we shall see. Excited that this might just work!
After our big April trip and seeing how things go in terms of crossing borders, we’ll figure out if we’re up for another trip down South, but I’m really hoping to attend!

Does anyone have recommendations for bed & breakfasts, car camping (with or without a tent), or motels/hotels on a budget? I’ve checked out a few options but wanted to see if anyone has a place they recommend. Thanks!

Hi @LindyBlues! There is a list of hotels that are close to my house in the second post of this thread. I don’t really know anything about bed & breakfasts or car camping. Because this is a college town, it’s mostly hotels. There is one campground north of town (D & W Lake RV Park), but I’m in the south end of town, so it’s about 20 minutes away.

Thanks for the camping link; it looks like it’s geared to rigs only, no tent sites as far as I can tell. Hotels might be more comfortable anyway
One day, in the far off future… I’d love to host something in Kingston, but that would probably only work for the handful of Canadians on the site, and not even for all of them 
I do dream about this off an on though lol

I’m definitely going to be coming, and I’ll be driving from Kingston, ON. I’m happy to pick up anyone along the route who wants to hitch a ride.
Here’s the map from my “hometown” to Champaign. No exact addresses; just from one city to the other.

I’ll likely be driving down on Thursday, the 25th, leaving Kingston very early in the morning (around 5:30 a.m.), and arriving late in the evening (around 9:00 p.m. or later, depending on how many stops I decide to make).
On the way back I’ll likely split the drive into 2 days.

I think I’m out this year sadly. We’ve got the convergence of family stuff coming up and trying to swing this at the same time feels like a bit too much =/ I’m sorry I’ll miss this!

Hello Friends! Well, we’re 4 weeks out from the Meetup, and so far, I have just one confirmed member attending, and several folks who are unable to make it. At this point, I either need a few more people to come back with a firm YES, or I’ll need to cancel the Meetup for this year. 
One person I was talking to privately said that they had held off confirming, because no one else was doing so, making them fear that the event would be cancelled. In case there are others sitting on the fence, waiting to see which way things go, I’ve gone ahead and tagged folks who chimed in on this thread. Please let me know if you are planning on coming, or if this just doesn’t work out for you.

I definitely cannot attend. I do not have a real ID as I am waiting for my passport to be processed. I can’t fly until I get it! Plus, my sister is coming in from Michigan to visit us the first week in July so I have to prepare for that. Sorry…this year has been a catch up from the first two years we have been living here and is super busy.
