Mother Oak will be the center piece of a community quilt to be auctioned off this summer for a women’s land group. Mama Oak has protected The Land for generations now. She will be the center feature. Others are creating block representing additional favorite and sacred places.
It’s really the only way to sew together 84 one inch squares. I drew out a 1 1/2 inch grid and ironed down all the squares and HSTs. I created my own pattern based on tree block examples I found on the web. The only tedius part is cutting all the seams and ironing. It’s oversized as requested, my friend will trim as needed as she assembles the quilt. I’ll have to wait until summer to see the final product.
Gah, it was already gorgeous but that sun just really adds something special. And those little embroidered flowers! Beautiful project and beautiful work! I hope you’ll update this thread with the finished quilt when everyone’s pieces have been added!

Those additional details really elevated the block to a new level…amazingly amazing!
This will make such a great center piece! And 84 1" squares!? Wow! That’s a lot of squares for a single block and a lot of dedication. It definitely paid off, your block is beautiful!
