Pants to bag plus an upcycled denim merit badge

If you follow me on social media, you might guess that I am away from my ‘studio’ and have been looking for alternate forms of entertainment. Today that comes in the form of looking at old pictures. This project was from 2012. I probably shared it in the other place but I don’t know. This was back when I was upcycling pants into bags. (It is kind of a pain so I don’t do it so much any more.) This is also in the early days of my making badges from old blue jeans. The butterfly design was licensed from Embroidery Library.

Over the past 12 years, I have learned to digitize so I pretty much only make my own designs.

I love a good upcycle & pants are wonderfully sturdy for bag making. Nice job! Great badges too. You can but should you - that’s a star :star_struck:

I love the look of this bag and the fact it was made from old pants! I’m sad to hear it was a pain though, because I want to learn to sew so badly so I can do this type of thing, lol. but I need to start with just learning how to sew straight lines first, haha

I love the butterfly badge on the bag, as well as the other badges. I wouldn’t have known the bag was made from pants if you hadn’t said it!

Not everything you sew is difficult to do. I hope you give it a go.

I’ll let you in on a secret - I can’t sew a straight line to save my life (even with a guide on my sewing foot) and it’s never had a negative effect on any of my projects.

@waggonswest, your bag looks great. I’d never have guessed it was made from old pants.

Thank you everyone. Sewing is a process. You just have to jump in and get started…

And don’t worry about it being perfect. You’ll never get anywhere if it has to be perfect first (or 31st) try.

Now some of you know the lyrics so sing along with me…

Corners don’t meet and I don’t care…

Excellent badges! (I need to figure out that digitizing thing, sigh…)

I like the placement of the seams on the pants bag.
