Paper, Mixed Media, Art Journaling Craftalong 2024

I played around more when I couldn’t sleep last night, sure wish I hadn’t used my entire pencil eraser, I’d like her nose less shaded …

I watched a video on drawing mouths

I watched it and drew a mouth during my lunch time

Then I tried to draw another face. The mouth is still lopsided and she looks like she got stung by a bee

Turn that frown upside down!

Wow, each face is so different and yet similar. Wonderful work.

Made a postcard yesterday/today for Postcrossing. Been fighting a summer cold for a couple weeks so this is as much energy as I had, not quite what I envisioned but it is what it is.

I’ve been playing with my new gelli plate the last couple of days and brayering off on the blank pages of this art journal I’m trying to finish. Favorite so far:

Simple journal page on a day off

I’m really loving seeing everyone’s art journal pages and cards and things

I started a small journal on the weekend for the first day of spring (using a cute small dot journal from @Abbeeroad). It’s loosely going to be some goals and inspiration for the coming months. We’ll see if my first page is shareable soon

I won’t hog the thread but I’ve been photographing the (insert correct word here) all over London, thinking I could start using these marks in my work. Here’s a few- let me know if you want more.

Man-hole covers - can’t think of the word/s I’m looking for…

So you had me questioning this myself,

Manhole covers, also known as outside drain covers, act as inspection chambers and drain pipe covers
I also found: cable cover

None seem quite accurate. Manhole covers were my first thought, but is a cable tv lid really a manhole cover.

I overthought this!!!

This is so awesome!!! I somehow missed seeing this thread before now and I’m so excited to read thru all of it!!
I am a “dabbler” in mixed media stuff. I tend to make things when I’m depressed or having a bad pain day bc I don’t have to concentrate on anything. I just make a mess and don’t worry about the outcome. It’s so freeing!
I’ve participated in Hanna Andersson’s iHanna MM international postcard swap 4 times now. It’s so much fun making them and getting postcards from all over the world. Here’s a pic of the giant stack of 40 MM postcards I’ve received from all corners of the world! If anyone is interested in joining the next swap, here’s the link. It’s done twice a year. iHanna postcard swap

This sounds awesome! Thank you for sharing. I’m totally gonna look it up.

Also, I hope you share some of what sounds like your art therapy with us. It’s always so interesting to see what others make.

Great to have you joining in! Remember to mark ‘Watching’ at the bottom of the thread, so you get notified when people post. There’s lots of inspiration in this craftalong!

My spring art journal is still in progress, but I did start another journal for doing bite-sized art. I made a list of around 100 prompts (started with a list I found online, but changed some and added several more.) Then I stuck it in the back of a blank journal (I have a few that I really want to use!) - my plan is to just pick a prompt and do something small with my morning coffee. The list at the back is like a numbered index, I saw a video where someone did something similar, and I liked the idea of adding the numbers and date.

I finished this one this morning, prompt ‘heart’.

Gah! Over your morning coffee! I cannot imagine free-handing that perfection so quickly or beautifully. And the lettering is just as perfect and lovely.
