I wonder if it’s related to Live Photo? Testing my theory

Edited to add - it looks like the Live Photo was rotated when it was resized but the non-live photos weren’t.
I haven’t posted anything live, so that’s not my issue.
Do you have Live Photos disabled? My iPhone takes Live Photos by default and I have to manually turn it off.
Argh, ok, I cannot email them to you without resizing them with my phone or transferring through some other device; will that still help?
ETA, same two photos where I resized the first one & not the second:
I am late to this conversation but I wanted to share some info. My husband explained it to me that the orientation information has to do with the meta data that is attached to the original image. Thus, copying it, and pasting it into a new, clean document, should leave the meta data behind that constantly wants to flip some images. I hope this helps.
