Quiltalong - 2024

Block is 15 1/4" square. I’m sure done with proper ironing and careful sewing it’ll actually be 15 1/2" unfinished.

This definitely works for the August prompt! What a fun improv block. Are you thinking you’ll do 8 more in the same colorway or different colors?

Goal list

  • Finish Halloween throw (this will also work for this quarter’s challenge!)
  • Finally finish hexie quilt??
  • Finally finish pillow that matches hexie quilt

Audiobooklover: I think I’ll try sticking to the same fabrics if I have enough. But I probably don’t. Only had 2 fat quarters of the space fabric, and 1/4 yard strip of the white. Will need more of both, but not sure I’ll be able to find it. I’ll wing it

I finished trimming all my I-Spy squares, so of course I had to put together a quilt top next…

But, one that’s been sitting on the shelf for a while. Now that it’s done, though, I realize that I don’t have backing fabric for it. :woman_facepalming:

I ordered fabric last night. :joy: JoAnn’s had a good coupon, and my local store had some coordinating fabric in stock.

What a lovely quilt top! I like the pattern and it works so well in the patriotic colors!

I love the way the diamond pattern is off-center. It adds so much interest. Very cool quilt.

Thanks! It was supposed to be for the QOVF block drive, but they didn’t want fabrics with prints, only solids. Oops. So, I was just going to turn it into a quilt and donate it that way. But life got crazy, I let my membership lapse, and now I’m at the point where I don’t have the time or energy to volunteer. One of my kids will probably claim it when it’s done. :person_shrugging:

They didn’t want prints? I have always donated a quilt with prints…oh, wait, that was for Wounded Warriors auction to raise money, not to a specific veteran…wow…that is one gorgeous, patriotic quilt! I’ll miss the auction this year due to not having any supplies (it is next week!)…but they usually have another in the spring.

Thank you! The backing fabric is the same as the red, starry fabric, but with a white background.

It was just a block drive, so someone else would be putting the blocks together into a quilt. Prints would be difficult to coordinate, I guess. Oh, well, at least I got to try out a new-to-me block. Also, it’s only 60" square, and I think they prefer it to be twin-sized.

This weekend I am cutting the stray strings and photographing my quilt. I should have it posted Monday. There are a LOT of strings. I didn’t take the advice of every video I wanted that said to cut them as I go. Lesson learned.

Today my quilting student finished the quilting on her crib-sized donation quilt. While she did that, I pin basted 2 more crib-sized quilts to donate to Quilts for Kids. Managed to quilt about 1/4 of first one this afternoon. Looking forward to getting more projects out of the studio.

I hope to get around to working on my Halloween quilt tonight! I’ve stitched all the blocks and sashing into long rows. But I lost a little bit of motivation last weekend when I found out that one row was inexplicably longer than the others. I’ve been very careful with measuring, cutting, cutting the blocks to size etc and still the rows differ in size. I’m never going to be a super precise quilter no matter how hard I try. But hopefully I can figure out a way to get all the rows to match, so I can get the quilt top done! I want to decorate for Halloween in two weekends and it would be cool if it’s done by then.

That would so frustrating. Im sure you will figure it out.
I am going to start cutting my Halloween quilt the first week of October. My goal is to be able to snuggle up with it on Halloween. Its okay if i don’t. I’ll still enjoy it after Halloween.
