Wow! I am constantly amazed by just how much you manage to get done. What beautiful donation quilts!
I actually still have a ton of 5" squares, and a bunch of scrap 2.5" strips in these colors. I’m thinking after Ada’s birthday I might do a Disappearing 4-Patch or 9-Patch, and either a Jelly Roll Race (with primary red 2.5" squares between the strips) or that Waterfall design that Sunbeam Fabric Art did a few weeks ago, that I shared the link to.
THEN, once most of this stuff is gone, I’d like to start on a new BOM quilt, with the Tula Pink prints I got for Christmas. My SIL & niece weren’t able to make it to Christmas, because SIL got sick, so we just received their gifts last weekend. My lovely niece got me another one of the Tula Scrap Bag bundles, so I’ve got 5 bundles of fat eights to play with.
Yay! It’s another bingo call day! Today’s bingo call is:
Complete a monthly prompt
For reference, this month’s prompt is
Inspired by:
Fall, mail, or flowers
Sounds to me like you have a lot more quilts planned! I have a few bundles of Tula Pink fabric that I bought to do her 100 quilt squares but just haven’t had a chance to start those.
@AudiobookLover – you are such a good motivator for this thread! I have gotten more done in the last three months than I did all last year!
I’m learning “proper” quilting for the first time*, and this weekend we covered HSTs in the class I’m taking.
These are my Odds and Ends blocks:
And this is my first pinwheel!
I’m in love with the tiny pinwheel on the back. I know it’s not perfect, but I’m bloomin proud of it for a first attempt.
I’m doing the Two At A Time method, does anyone have any tips for this? I feel like my seams are a bit scant at times. Because of my Dyspraxia, I benefit from being able to run the drawn line on the block through a set point on my presser fooot, so I’ve been sewing with the standard foot and shifting the needle position. Not sure if I need to try something else? Thank you.
*I made three baby quilts for my niblings who are now all in their late teens or early twenties.
Heck yeah! You did a lovely job on these HST’s, and your pinwheel came out great!
I have so many orphan blocks. Not enough of any of them in any sort of colorway to make a quilt, so I am always looking for small projects to use them up.
This is the block I started with it. It is one of the BOMs from 2021. I used three to make a table runner and had this one left over.
I quilted it using a simple wavy stitch then turned it into a zippered pouch.
The inside is lined with a metallic orange fabric leftover from a more current quilt project that I still need to finish.
I think it was one of the challenges, maybe make something for yourself?
Yeah, that’s a cat hair in the pic. My little cat is obsessed with thread and hangs out in my sewing room when I sew.
All of your blocks look great, @LittleCogs! I especially like the vibrant pop of colors in the first block. My best tip for the two at a time HST method is to fold the triangles over and press them after they’re sewn but before they’re cut. I learned the trick from this this video, you can see a demonstration of the technique at 6:12.
@AIMR, I love how you turned that block into a pouch! That metallic peeking out looks like the perfect interior. This one fits a few different prompts including the bingo prompt of ‘quilt something for yourself’ and the quarterly prompt of ‘quilt something functional.’
I hope your bingo cards are ready for the BIGGEST bingo call day yet!
I had promised a special bingo call for St. Patrick’s Day, and since today overlaps with a normal bingo call, I think it’s only fair to do two calls today. That’s right, not just one but twoooo!!
Without further ado, here is the DOUBLE bingo call:
- Create a label and attach it to your quilt
- Create a quilted project from a kit
I very much appreciate you saying that! I am excited about this year’s Quiltalong and am so glad that you inspired me to do the Quiltalong Bingo!
That’s an excellent tip! I also struggled with a bit wonky HSTs and avoided them where I could. I bet this will also help me with my flying geese!
So sad to report that Donna Jordan, who produced countless quilting videos on YouTube, (several of which I’ve shared here) passed away a few days ago. Her husband & son posted the last quilt video she was working on, along with a brief message today. Jordan Fabrics is a family business, with her husband cutting quilt kits, and one of her sons doing all the video editing for the tutorials she shared. I enjoyed her videos so much because she never seemed to talk either up or down to her audience, but they were always still helpful for new and experienced quilters alike. Here’s a link to her last video, and her family’s message.
Aw RIP. I really liked her videos. Thanks for posting this Jennie, x
I also loved her videos…What a wonderful story of her life … in quilts…RIP. Glad to hear her family will continue her legacy.
Just bumped into this cute block, and thought some of you scrappy mavens would like it…
How very sad, my heart breaks for her family and all those who loved her. Thank you for sharing her last video with us.
I came across this bag and it made me think of the zip pouch you made from your orphan block. I think a project bag like this would be a great way to use up an unused quilt block!
It’s time for another bingo call! After today’s call, we just have three calls left. I’m really surprised that no one has gotten a bingo yet. I actually expected there to be multiple bingos by now. Is anyone close to getting one?
Today’s bingo call:
Create a quilted gift for someone else
That’s a great fall block!
RIP Donna Jordan
And … OMG!

I think I hit BINGO but have to review after i post. I’m too excited about #2 to check.

I just finished moms butterfly quilt top! It’s been on my active UFO project lists for years. Started it in 2022 after mom survived COVID-19 (she was in a coma for a week or two, hospital over a month, plus rehab, learning to walk again, etc). It’s been in “just need to sew the borders on” for two years. She was diagnosed with breast cancer around Thanksgiving. Stage 1, but the test came back right at the line where they recommend chemo. She starts chemo this Friday. Last week my boss told me a handmade quilt would be great, because what he remembered from his wife going through chemo is how cold she was, and a quilt helped. So I found the bits and pieces, and got it finished. It’s teal butterflies and flowers.
I’ll get a pic of the whole top tomorrow. I’m dropping it and the backing and batting with a guild board member to quilt it for me. Part of me feels it will mean more if I do it, but it took me 2 years to cut and sew the border strips. Done is best.
