Quiltalong - 2025

The wanderers wife fascinates me. I did a kind of same thing with all different sized scrap blocks…not easy…but that’swhat Ido. Drove me a little crazy, but the final was beautiful. It was donated to a woman who had lost her house to a fire.

I say go for it.

Ooh, this is the kind of quilt that appeals to me.

So pretty!

The biggest obstacle to starting is that I can’t work out if seam allowances are included in the blocks or not.

@marionberries that is really gorgeous. And incredibly kind x

Not sure how old your pattern is but it looks like mine when it was named “Gypsy Wife”. On page 2, mine says “Instructions are given for rotary cutting and machine piecing therefore 1/4” seam allowance is included in the cutting measurements."

So far, my finished blocks are turning out to the proper size.

I suggest doing a main, larger block first. Then do some of the filler blocks. I used Kaffe Fasset fabrics so I cut out a lot of the centers to show off the fabrics and pinned them to the page. I then used all sorts of scraps to make the blocks.

Seriously, once you start, they go quickly but I lost momentum so this might get me started again!

Let’s get it done for 2025!

Duh! How did I miss this!

Good tip to do one bigger block, I tend to start at the beginning and work my way though, but I’ve big block will be better. Going to do it now, and let nothing else distract me.

I kept a notebook and numbered the blocks as well as named them. When I got them done, I highlighted them. There were so many focus blocks and filler blocks. You have to have a system that will work for you to keep track!

I actually have six not done yet and then all the strips. I will put it down as a quarterly goal to at least get those done! I don’t want to commit to having it finished, but for sure by the end of the year!!

This was my confusion. I was briefly in a FB group for this and they published lots of stuff to keep everyone on track with it. They have finished block at 9.5 but the wanderers wife has it at 9. I’m not sure if the WW pattern has it to be 9 when sewn in, or it would be 8.5 when sewn in. I tied myself in knots over this

I literally have a folder full of stuff I printed online, and worked things out etc etc. And then couldn’t resolve that confusion and so didn’t do anything. I do understand that it would potentially all come out ok with either dimension, but I’m not sure what to do

Did my first block, yay! But trimmed it to 9" and and now wondering if that was correct. It’s no Biggie, I can add a strip all around to add the 1/2" but I would like to get this correct at this stage

Also 3 7/8" is a stupid measurement

when I say I spent hours trying to figure this out, I wish I were kidding.

it’s ok, I’ve realised it should be 9.5" :grimacing: argh!

One square officially done, eleventy million to go. And it’s the correct size! Given that I messed up the size on this, the only way is up right?! And this completes one of my Q2 goals

Good start! I wouldn’t worry too much about exact measurements because there is a lot of play with using the strips. You can make them wider or narrower due to how all the blocks are laid out. I’m not going to worry until I start putting it together.

I am going to iron the blocks and then measure…they have been in the bin too long.

Heck yeah @Edel! You’ve started the journey. You got this.

@LittleCogs, if you’re able to, will you please post a pic of your bingo cards on your bingo post?

@marionberries, I like how you took the layout concept of the Wanderer’s Wife and made it work for your quilt! You’ve got me thinking on how that kind of layout opens up all kind of possibilities for sampler quilts.

Congratulations, @Edel on getting that first block done! Time to add a new goal to the list - complete a second WW block .

@AIMR, I’m excited to hear that you’re working on the WW quilt too. It’s such a neat and different quilt. I love seeing the same pattern done in different colorways, so I’m excited to see your version alongside Edel’s!

I made a little mug rug for a swap. I like doing a spiral quilt pattern so the mug can sit nicely. I colored the one cat with a fabric marker to fit her theme of blue cats. The tag is also done with a fabric marker since I suck at embroidered letters and didn’t want to pull our my embroidery machine.

What a fun concept. I love this! The handwritten sentiment was definitely the way to go. I love using my embroidery machine, but small, thin letters are difficult to do.

I’m sharing this for a bingo prompt. My favorite quilt pattern is super easy. I keep telling myself to stop, but then I see new fabrics to try it with. I just have to see how they look!

Disappearing Nine Patch with fat quarters.

Trim off any selvages, then trim them to be the same size (usually 18"x21") then work as usual.

This is the link to the video that got me hooked (beware… language. She made me laugh too much) https://youtu.be/gCGRO7Q5wyo?si=0L6D5H-Vao9qcAGU

For funzies… my new favorite that I want to make one for myself:

@jellybean I’ve got a quilted zipper pouch on my list! Just the one. It’s like half done. Zippers intimidate me. Good luck on all your projects!
