Quiltalong - 2025

I actually gave away the original quilt I made because it was too loud, I really didn’t like it.

@aimr I’m not sure it’s really me either, it’s too pretty. Having said that, I think I might make it, it’ll be an interesting one to try some more complex quilting patterns on, and if I don’t like it, I can give it away.

Although I think if I group the colours, it might be more interesting

I think you should make it just to get the feel of it. I have four fabrics I purchased to make one…what is this magic that shows you how the blocks would look? The colors in my fabric are not ones I would personally pick now, but I have found that no matter what I make someone wants it! I am sure the same with you!

This is the link, if you take a photo of your fabric and upload it. It will give you an idea of what it looks like when cut and pieced

Oooohhhh, I love it! It makes me think of that book of plants in the Yale library that makes no sense and no one has decoded.

Edit: The Voynich Manuscript

I really like that, but that looks like it would be crazy to make.

It looks like this mosaic wall! A garden theme!

@AIMR, did you participate in the mystery quiltalong this morning?

I started and have Clue 1 finished and Clue 2 partially done, but LittleBookLover needed his mama, so I haven’t finished yet. I’m hoping to get it all done today though. I saw that clue 3 said we were halfway done at that point and everything was easy up to then, so it feels feasible that I can get it done!

I did! It was like speed quilting on FB…man, some people are super fast!

I won’t post mine here until you get through it…no one in our group had our fabrics!

The only thing I would change is that they did not mention(or, more likely I just missed it!) that the main fabric was going to be on point, so I fussy cut it to be a normal square…it looks fine, but picky me would do it differently next time! I would have liked the center piece to be vertical. Oh well! It does not have to be fussy cut…I cut into a big piece to get that.

I, AIMR, submit this Adori Quilt Block as an on-time May BOM, and as one of my goal list projects. It is also a Bingo call!

I love your quilt block! It looks really good in the blues and white.

Thank you for the heads up that the center piece would be on point. I agree that they definitely should have mentioned that. Especially because they even suggest that you might want to fussy cut.

Armed with the knowledge that you provided, I was able to create a template to help me see how my fabric would look.

I typically lean more toward symmetrical options, but I found myself more drawn toward the second option, so that’s what I went with.

I am happy to report that I have sewn my individual blocks and now just need to sew them altogether!

I like them both! I also like the second one best…it has more movement and all the colors are represented well.

Also, duh…I need to make some templates for fussy cutting. I am doing a bunch of economy blocks and the fussy cutting is killing me!

I can’t wait to see how yours looks! I’m not sure if I’m going to use the included fabric for the binding or if I’m going to use a different one. I brought a couple of other purple fabrics to audition for the binding once I get it all put together.

I don’t like the purple either. I am going to pick fuschia.

I am loving the progress on your quilts @AIMR and @AudiobookLover makes me wish I lived close to your awesome quilt shops a mystery quilt seems like a lot of fun.

@MistressJennie I’m definitely going to make it and call it the voynich quilt.

@Zimbaly is actually way less difficult to make than it looks. The trickiest part is lining up six layers of fabric exactly on the pattern repeat. Eg if there was a daisy, 6 pieces of identical fabric have to be stacked so that all the daisy centres are exactly on top of one another.
Then you cut triangles through the six layers and stitch them together into hexagons.

This was an unfun time, it took three of us three hours to put this big beastie together
Haven’t tried it out yet apart from switching it on

It’s scary,…! And it just fits in the room.

That’s a serious long arm! Looking forward to seeing what you make!

Hey guys, guess what I did?

I tripped over Ada, fell, and broke my wrist. While I am visiting my parents in NH, just as a ton of relatives arrived for a party. I was looking forward to quilting when I got home, but now there won’t be any crafts for awhile. :disappointed_relieved: And I still have to fly back home with a toddler on Wednesday.

Oh, Jennie I’m so sorry to hear all that - that is rough (especially since you still need to fly home…with a toddler!! You are pretty brave for flying out in the first place!). I hope you heal quickly!:heart:
