Quiltalong - 2025

Oh, sweetie…so sorry. Glad you are alright. It will be a challenge just to be able to take of Ada and yourself, so take a break and heal up!

Oh no, you poor thing, that must have been very painful and frustrating. Hope you heal soon x

Noo! Oh, Jennie, I’m so sorry that happened to you both. What a lousy thing to have happen anytime but on vacation sole-parenting!? That’s awful.
Sending “heal quickly” and “smooth travels” vibes your way.

Well this was a bear to set up, but it’s done! And we have quilting!! Wibbly wobbly, but I’ll get there!

Oh man so sorry. I hope you’re ok and have a speedy recovery.

The universe will make it up to ya for this somehow. It’s gotta balance stuff out… especially with that kind of timing.

I have put together my mystery quilt!

I was unsure of the black fabric when I got my bundle, but now seeing it all together, I really like the way it frames the quilt. Thank you, @AIMR for introducing me to this fabric bundle. I absolutely love the way my quilt came out!!

I have ordered some invisible thread and am thinking that I will just stitch in the ditch outlining the border and the star.

Oh, and silly me. There I was thinking hmm, I haven’t used my seam ripper for any quilt projects this quarter, how am I going to check that off my bingo card? Well, it was simply because I hadn’t done any quilt projects this quarter. I can now thoroughly, thoroughly mark that one on my bingo card.

Quarter 2 Challenge
(April 1 - June 30)
Tackle a project that has been on your “To-Do List” for at least 6 months.
We all have those projects that we’ve considered making, but just haven’t gotten around to yet. Or, maybe you have already managed to start it. Either way, if you have had a project on either your mental or written to-do list, and it’s been on said list for at least 6 months, it qualifies for this challenge. Now’s the time to complete that project and check it off your list!

Goal List:
Feel free to add any additional goals to your goal list, or if you haven’t already, you can still share your second quarter goals with us. You can earn a point for every goal you share and complete!

This is kinda creepy, but you even put the swirls in the black fabric the exact way I did…We also did the corner pieces the same direction even though it was an option. I did it with white on the outside because I knew the border was bright so I didn’t want it to compete with the aqua fabrics…just our centers are different…and, I probably cut off a few points…ha ha

You know what they say about great minds . When I had the individual pieces sewn together, I tried to figure out the final layout before looking at the reveal. When I played around with the pieces I felt like it didn’t look right with the white touching the white in the corners, but when I had it turned so that the aqua faced inward, it gave a churn dash border that framed the quilt nicely and I felt certain that must be the final layout. I feel like it looks much better this way!

You say you probably cut off a few points, I say I probably used the seam ripper more, lol. I like how the aqua complements your center square!

Believe me, I got the BINGO square to use my seam ripper more than a few times! I have used the original purple fabric to use as backing and found some fuschia solid for binding. I need to finish this before it even hits my WIP pile!

This is exactly how I feel!

Earlier, @MistressJennie had a single project that checked off bingo prompts, goal list entries, and a monthly prompt or maybe quarterly challenge. I felt like that’s the kind of project I need and that’s what this has become! Once I finish it, it will count toward 6 bingo prompts alone (and those are only the ones that have been called)! There’s so much that will be accomplished by finishing this quilt, not least of which will be having a new wall hanging that I enjoy looking at .

So often, I end up dragging my feet on my quilting projects which causes them to take forever, so getting this finished so soon after starting it really will be quite the accomplishment for me!!

I also brought along the Maker/Destructor prize packs to finish up. They are nearly complete. I just have to finish up one element on each of them. Once finished, I will have 8 prize packs ready to be sent!

… I finally caught up on this thread! Everyone’s been making such great things!

I haven’t been doing much crafting lately, but soon my crafting table will be clear enough to use for sewing again. (It’s also the table I use for putting puzzles together - I had several puzzles I hadn’t put together yet, but I’m on my last one.)

What size is the mystery quilt?

Mine will be about 20 inches square. Not sure they ever gave the dimensions of the finished project. I just cut the binding.

Mine is about 21" square. They had us sew the HST corners to the top and bottom borders and then those were the last two pieces to be sewn on to complete the quilt. Mine were too long by probably around an inch each and I had to go back and shorten them, which is interesting because I just looked back at my original post announcing the mystery quiltalong and according to that info, we were supposed to end up with a 21" square quilt. Hmm, how mysterious indeed, lol.

It is Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Bingo prompt!

Today’s prompt is:
Submit a personal finish

I went back and measured and mine is also 21 inches square! I didn’t do any adjustment except re-do some points. I am debating joining the new mystery quilt…if I do, I am going to use stash…I just gave a friend a tour of my craftroom and storage area and she was overwhelmed…it gave me a bit of anxiety as well as I was doing it…

@AIMR, I think that using up some stash to do the mystery quilt is an excellent idea…unless they have another great fabric bundle like the ones we got. Then I think that making two mystery quilts - 1 with stash fabrics and 1 with bundle fabrics - is an excellent idea .

In all seriousness though, I do know what you mean about it being overwhelming and I do think that coming up with projects to use up some of your stash is a good idea.

I sometimes feel like I need to stop buying fabric until I use up some of what I have. It’s easy to say, until I come across a new fabric that I love. And, I know that most fabrics are a limited run and I have to get them while I can. So, I figure if I love it I should get it and when I do feel a bit overwhelmed, I try to think on how much joy the purchasing and receiving of the fabric has brought me. Then I become determined to use up the fabrics (just don’t ask me how that’s going ).

@MistressJennie, how was the flight home? How’s your wrist?

I brought along two different purple fabrics as potential bindings for my mystery quilt. When I tried them out individually, I liked the darker purple better, but when I tried them out side by side, I could see that the lighter purple is a much better option. It has some pinkish tones that work well with the center block.

I’m hoping that once I smooth the fabric onto the batting that I can stretch it just enough that those puckers disappear. I’m not entirely sure what caused them. Improper tension is my best guess, but I did spend a lot of time trying to get the tension right, so :woman_shrugging:.

The flight was as good as it could be. Poor Ada was a bit cranky from being woken up several hours earlier than usual, especially after a busy week of new experiences and less sleep than usual. Thankfully she eventually fell asleep on my hip during the first flight. The airline got me wheelchair support through Chicago O’Hare, with Ada on my lap. So they took us from gate to gate. (While my arm is the worst injury, I’m covered in huge black bruises all down my left side and leg, and those ache when I’m walking.) The airline also moved our seats, putting us closer to the front, with expanded room, which helped me not be jostled as much.

After we got home, Ada ate a few bites of lunch and asked to go to bed, where she took a 4 hour nap I had to eventually wake her from to go to Urgent Care. While she was out, I was calling to try to get an appointment with an Orthopedist for a real cast. Eventually it was determined the best way was to send me to Urgent Care for new x-rays (because getting the NH hospital to send them wasn’t looking feasible). They freaked out because I said I had a distal radius fracture, and apparently the brace I had been given was only supporting my ulna, and not helping the radius at all. The new x-rays confirmed what I said, but also found a chip on the ulna that NH had missed. They wrapped me in a fiberglass cast, which weighs a ton, but is supporting both sides now. And I’ve been able to scale back on the alternating Tylenol and Advil.

Overall, everything about this sucks, but at least I seem to be getting actual care now, and I’m home with Jim, who is amazing. The man also painted the living room while we were gone, getting rid of the cheap grey paint that was in there. It’s now so much more warm and inviting. Great considering how much I’m going to be stuck in there for the next few months.
