Ugh that’s A LOT! I’m glad to hear you’re home now and hope your arm heals quickly.
Getting injured while you are away from home is super stressful. I know a cast is a pain, but it definitely will help with healing properly!
Is it your dominant hand? Ugh. I feel for you. I have to wear a brace periodically, and it drives me bonkers. A cast would put me in a bad mood. Hopefully, you can find things to keep your mind off of it. You’ll be back to normal in no time.
Thankfully it’s my non dominant hand.
@MistressJennie that all sucks, but at least with proper support there should hopefully be less pain.
My new long armer is still being an ass, she is now called Lucy(short for Lucifer). Every time I solve one problem another one crops up. And there is not a single technician on the entire island of Ireland . Just as well I’m techy, with AI I’m getting there, but there has been thread issues, so I’ve had to drive to a shop-by-appointment woman who stocks quilting stuff, so I can get some Aurifil to at least eliminate that issue.
I spent ages online last night trying to find a stockist for glide thread-none in Ireland and the ones I found in England don’t ship here because of Brexit, so I have to ship to Belfast and wait until next week when my husband’s friend comes from there to Dublin.
I may have mentioned that quilting is niche here, so stuff is just not available. But I have come to the realisation that this doesn’t have to be all sorted today. It will take time and I’ll really know the machine when it’s working well.
I came early to the quilt shop, so I could stop in this bougie cake place. ![]()
I’m glad the airline was able to offer you some support and that you were able to get things taken care of with your local healthcare system. It sounds like the cast will help with the healing and hopefully it will keep everything well supported as you continue to go about your day to day life (and keep your wrist safe from an active toddler!).
I saw a guy recently who instead of having his arm in a sling, had a cushion clipped under his arm in order to support it. It seemed like a more convenient option. Did they give you something like that?
If you’re looking for something in particular I can always try and see if there’s a webshop in the NL that can send it to you! Quilting isn’t really big here either, but we have a couple of well stocked webshops that I doubt a person googling from a foreign country would find.
If you need shipping from England, maybe I can help??
Also, I don’t know if you could contact these people for help with the longarm, they are super helpful, run classes, do all things quilting, including giving weary partners tea, coffee and biscuits
Thank you! One thing I’m struggling to find is a supplier of juki (used to be called grace) quilting frame parts. I want to replace some worn roller stops. If the ones you know have anything like that, will you send me links.
@Renstar thanks sweetie, I’ve been in touch with a couple of places in England and Wales, and at least I can get small stuff delivered to Belfast.
In some ways it’s good that we don’t have handy dandy quilt shops here, I went for thread here (nearly fell out of my standing at the price of a big spool of Aurifil) and of course I bought more fabric. But they were 1€ solid FQs, we won’t mention the 10€ half yard. I’d be in the poor house if there were shops on every corner!
That looks like an awesome quilt shop and their workshops are a reasonable price. Pinhole quilting company charge £160 for a one day introduction to long arm quilting, that’s nearly $220 USD or nearly $300CAD in their own studio ![]()

They are fab, many quilting tours from across the world visit.
It is relatively close to me / family, so if you needed something I could collect and post on, although it is a dangerous place to visit!!! It’s a vast barn (s) of fabric and goodness. So much money to be spent!!
Next time you visit SW England I recommend, although they are only open Fri - Sun (I think)
Today isn’t a holiday, but it is a special day - LittleBookLover’s 12th birthday!
So, to share the birthday fun, here’s a special bingo call!
Today’s Bingo prompt:

Congratulations LittleBookLover! I hope you guys have a fun day today.
Conngrats LittleBookLover!!! I hope you guys have an awesome day.
Happy birthday LittleBookLover!
Mini update: I got to see an Orthopedist yesterday. Apparently the two ends of bone will not heal properly with just a cast and would probably never work right again. As the doc put it “You’re far too young to lose so much mobility in your hands.” So I need surgery to put the bone back in alignment and add a metal plate. That’s going to happen on Tuesday. Then I’ll be in a brace for 6 weeks, then 6 more weeks of physical therapy. Think good thoughts for me.
Oh, and in amusing news, Jim had to go to the livestock supply store to buy cow/horse birthing gloves, to wrap me up in so I could get a shower. We have a box of 100 of these 39" gloves. ![]()
Oh, no! At least they are taking care of it now…
Yeah, having spent many summers on my uncle’s cattle farm, I am familiar with those gloves…seriously, though, what a clever re-purpose… ![]()
Oh noooo, that’s bad news
But I guess it’s a good thing you went to see another doctor at home, and they gave you a proper treatment plan, it would have been worse if you hadn’t and you would have been left with limited mobility. Hopefully everything goes well on Tuesday!
Yup, those gloves look familiar, these, orange baling twine and udder cream, we used them for many different things
I think I used them too when I broke my wrist some time in the 90s, with an annoying tight rubber band at the top so water would not leak in from the top.
Well that sucks, but I guess at least they have discovered this now and can fix it fast, rather than wondering why it doesn’t heal.
So sorry to hear yhis @MistressJennie . I can only imagine how frustrated you are.
