That view!!
Iād been by the sea before, but recently we spent about a week in a small seaside town by the North Sea and I think thatās the longest time Iāve ever spent by the sea. I had no idea the water was so interesting to look at during all types of weather, not just on a sunny beach day. The quilt looks nice there, next to the window. And such fun labels!
I have a finish, and on my new machine. It covers a couple of bingo prompts I think
and so many thanks to @MistressJennie for the words she wrote about using the machine to draw with (when I was asking opinions about buying it) it broke me out of my mental moulds around it.
I did a portrait of my daughter in art quilt form today. Itās linen, with thin batting and upholstery fabric behind for stability. I cut out an aperture, added white linen and then this piece of abstract stained glass that I made. I made wooden frame and stapled on the quilt, there are LEDs behind to illuminate the glass. Itās more green in real life. Itās about 28"*21
Your talent knows no bounds - absolutely incredible work!!
That is amazing my darling!!!
Hey Friends. Just wanted to give you an update. Surgery went well on Tuesday. Iām wrapped up in a new, slightly shorter plaster cast/splint. The shorter length allows me to move my fingers more, which is helping with the stiffness and swelling. Iām still in pain, but itās better/more manageable. I feel like it is at least healing now. I go in for a checkup on the 24th.
Weirdest part is not knowing what the incision looks like under there. Iām so used to needing to change a dressing and keep it clean. Just not checking it for 2 weeks feels crazy. Really wonder what my tattoo looks like nowā¦
Also, I really want to craft something. Anything.
So cool! I would love to see a photo with the glass lit up.
I donāt know about your surgeon and the location of the incision / tattoo, but my friend needed surgery in a heavily tattood area of her body, and that surgeon performed a miracle on her tattoo. They had to take out part of the tattood skin but they really paid attention when they were sewing it back together. The design looks different now but still great.
I honestly had no idea surgeons even did that, I thought theyād just do the medically necessary thing and sew the skin back together.
Todayās special Fatherās Day Bingo prompt is:
Use a striped fabric
@MistressJennie Iām sorry to hear about your arm, but glad your local doctors sorted you out. I hope youāre feeling better.
And happy belated birthday to LittleBookLover.
Iām sorry Iāve been MIA from the thread. My dadās mental health crashed and he was having really bad delusions. He was diagnosed with lewy body dementia on Friday, and my partner was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and a B12 deficiency a month ago, so things have been hard round here.
Iāve still been sewing, including quilt-adjacent stuff, but I havenāt had the brain to finish my Flying Geese blocks. I also paused work on my queue of summer gifts while I was signed off with stress, cos I needed things to feel less pressured.
Last night I started this Manx quilting version of a Courthouse Steps block:
Oh sweetie youāve had a tough time. Hugs
What cool fabrics! This pattern is perfect for the directional fabricsā¦you can see so much more of the designs! The bats are my favoriteā¦or maybe the ghostsā¦and catsā¦just love it!
Turned out so nice! I have had a very stressful week, but hoping to get to both my June BOM and finishing the mystery quilt as well!
@Edel ā your thread portrait is fantastic! So glad you are finding creative ways to use your new toy and not just using it for quilting!
@LittleCogs ā sorry that you are going through this stress.
@MistressJennie --glad that your arm is healing. It must be a relief to have more mobility.
Incredible! I love the color in the eyes too.
This year has been a rough one. I hope things calm down for you,
@MistressJennie, Iām sorry to hear that youāre still in pain but Iām glad to hear that it feels like itās healing. Maybe you could try a diamond art or paint by numbers kit (or even just regular painting), I think either of those could mostly be done one handed, though I suppose youād need your other hand for things like keeping the diamond/paint containers from tipping.
@LittleCogs, thank you for the belated birthday wishes for LittleBookLover (he actually still has quite a few gifts to open, so itās kind of like a birthday month
). Iām sorry to hear you have so much going on, but Iām glad youāre giving yourself a creative outlet!
@AIMR, I am really looking forward to seeing your mystery quilt completed. Also, I feel like the June block is a unique type of block and Iām curious to see different variations of it!
I, AudiobookLover, submit my mystery quilt for my goal list entry of āParticipate in Starlight mystery quiltalong.ā
I, AudiobookLover, submit the completed mystery quilt for my goal list entry of āFinish Starlight mystery quilt.ā
BINGO!!!
- Quilt your project - the quilted mystery quilt above.
- Use 2.5" strips - I used them for the binding on the mystery quilt above.
- Finish a quilted project that you started this quarter - I started the mystery quilt on May 31 and finished last week.
- Post about your favorite quilting tool or technique - I posted about the stripology ruler.
- Complete two of your quarterly goals - I completed the two listed above.
Congratulations on hitting Bingo!
And your Mystery quilt is absolutely lovely.
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. Iāve been chilling out since Sunday by making these two 12" blocks.
They are versions of Courthouse Steps, but made in a Manx quilt style, so the logs are folded 2.5" strips (for the bingo call
). This gives the block a lovely texture.
The fabric is a Rashida Coleman-Hale line that I got in a Ruby Star Society scrap bag.
I love the way those look! Great job on the fabric placements.
Thank you ![]()
@AIMR previously suggested I should nominate it as a Block of the Month; is there still space, and if youāre interested, how do I nominate it?
