Everyone’s goals are so inspirational! I only have one. Start & finish the baby quilt I’m making for my niece / nephew. Baby is due in spring so my goal is to finish the things I want to make before the birth - a quilt and a latch hook pillow - before Christmas so I can give them as Christmas gifts (baby showers don’t exist in my country).
The Halloween quilt I made last year is finally in the washing machine. I was a bit nervous about that because it has wool batting. I’ve put it on the cold, handwash cycle and I’m going to dry it on the drying rack. I’m normally not really careful about washing quilts but I’ve always worked with poly or cotton batting. I made this one for myself and wool has been an excellent choice, it’s really comfy and warm, but also lightweight.
@MistressJennie this is amazing, what a find, and happy birthday ![]()
@AIMR the mystery quilt is lovely, the way the stars swoop round the outsides is wonderful. And I am so pleased you liked the Manx method, I am interested to see what you do with them. I am still planning to make a pink pouch with the Ruby Star Society octopus fabric I got for my birthday.
@Edel I am so sorry for your loss. It feels like life has been dealing you some rough hands lately. I hope there are some peaceful moments for you.
Oh, @AudiobookLover rhank you for doing the points maths for me, I thought I had left it too late. Been running on 5h sleep and I am a bit frazzled round the edges. Thank you so much, that has made me smile ![]()
I am planning to do my goal list and bingo cards this week. Now, I am going to go sew for 10 min, before I have to start my to do list again.
Today’s Bingo prompt is:
Quilt past your bedtime
I love this prompt!
Fourth Quarter Goals:
• Finish Patchworking Coat
• Quilt Coat
• Bind Edges of Coat
• Bat Coffee Cozy
• Two Bowl Cozies
• A Block of the Month
• Quilted Basket
• Table Runner
Hahaha always? Oh… wait. “____ past my bedtime" always. Quilting hit or miss. Though I’m going to try going to bed on time tonight.
Although “on time” is 30 minutes from now. And I’m cutting corners off snowballed edges. I’m going to have a new quilt top done by next week ![]()
Ooh, a new quilt top is quite the accomplishment! When I’m working on any sort of project near bedtime, I tend to have an ‘I’ll just finish this real quick’ mentality. It’s never ‘real quick.’ But, that doesn’t stop me from thinking the same exact thing the next time
.
I always feel like if I stop, I will get out of the rhythm, which is a true thing for me.
I almost quilted past my bedtime last night-this prompt in my head!- sensibly I remembered I had to give a lecture at 9, meet a student about research at ten, get a train to Dublin at 12 to see an exhibition of Gee’s bend quilts.
So I didn’t, but this was my favourite quilt that I saw today
There was also an exhibition of this American artist’s work-Sam Gillam he dyes, paints and improv pieces fabric. I really liked his stuff. This piece is about 1.5m high
You know how sometimes you suspect you’re a bit daft, and other times you’re sure.
This is a latter situation, I’m planning on doing a second PhD, part time, while also doing two more years of my part time degree, and holding down a full time professor job. (Insert eye roll here)
But I’m going to do this PhD on women and creativity with specific reference to my patchwork group. Which will be really interesting! (My first PhD was in engineering and it was boring.) I want to explore their attitudes towards their perception of their own creativity and I plan to see if I can shift their internal needle a bit more towards “art” from “hobby”
And this is where you, my lovely online quilt group come in. I will be using a specific demographic, which is middle aged to older Irish women for my research. There will be questionnaires and interviews. Questionnaire design is a bit of an art, so I need a pilot group to test my questionnaire, (which I’ll then apply statistical methods to, to see if they are ok)
Would any of you lovely people be able to help, by filling in a questionnaire. It’ll only be about ten minutes or so of your time. ![]()
I’m happy to help luv.
I would be happy to help if your demographic goes up that high! ![]()
Yes, I would be happy to help.
I am not a prolific quilter, but I can help fill out a questionnaire.
Thank you guys, I’ll be in touch xx
If you need more questionnaires filled out, I’m happy to help as well.
I’d be happy to do a questionnaire.
I’m making a colour wheel quilt. I love it, I’m doing the hand stitching, and I’m probably about 85% finished, when I realised I messed up.
These rows got switched when joining them and it took me this long to notice (about 2 weeks) . I’m pretty angry with myself.
So it doesn’t work as a functional colour wheel. And the hand embroidery I am doing is literally lines to reference the types of colour schemes.
I could:
1. Leave it and cope. I’m bad at coping.
2. Unpick the circles, make new squares to sew over the top, and re-applique the circles back on.
I am too far through the quilt to unpick things back to the point where the side strips can be removed and swapped over.
And more frustratingly, I’m away with a friend this weekend. This is the main craft I packed to do. Thankfully the hand stitching I’m doing isn’t on those squares.
sigh
Oh no! I think sewing new squares over the old is the best bet. You will never be happy unless you can realize the original design.
I don’t thing leaving it and coping would work at all! Would not for me.
