I picked up these fabrics over the weekend. I’m not sure what I’ll use them for, but I recently made some project bags (
) and I’m thinking I may make one for myself as well. The wolf fabric would be perfect for it!
The purple precut fabric at the top is prepped to make a bowl cozy. Since I’ve planned on making some for a few years now and still haven’t gotten around to it, I figured I couldn’t go wrong with a ready to sew version!
Oh, really quick, while I am thinking about it, I would like to post a PSA:
Do not get too close to the bobbin winder on your machine! I leaned over while I was winding a bobbin and next thing I knew, my hair was wound up along with the thread
. Thankfully, I was able to quickly push the stop button and unwind my hair, but you can be sure I won’t be making that mistake again!
That sounds scary, I’m glad you were able to stop it in time but that could have been dangerous!
That wolf fabric is amazing ![]()
OMG, that’s so scary! I’m so glad you’re okay. ![]()
I used to have to give PSA’s like that to the college students all the time. Some was stuff you just might not have thought of like the bobbin winding. Others were OSHA regulations put into law because of specific injuries. (Closed toed shoes are required in all Costume Shops, because dropping a sharp pair of dressmaker shears can in fact, cut off a toe.) Then there were ones you’d just think “Who the heck was dumb enough to do that?!?!” Like the rule in our college Scene Shop that required a sign be put up: Don’t tickle people using the table saw.
I feel that I’d like that sign. I don’t have a table saw, but it’s funny enough to be a thing
The costume designer I worked with did not let us pin using straight pins. They had to be safety pins. Now I have hundreds of safety pins in my stash.
I have done the bobbin winding hair thing…I generally wear my hair back in my craft room to prevent sewing and paint mishaps. Glad you are ok, @AudiobookLover !
I , AudiobookLover, offer this lacy block for April’s prompt.
This Quilted Horizontal lace block features 5 lace stripes (triple whammy!).
I had originally planned on changing this block up so that the lace went the same direction instead of facing each other, but as I prepared to make the block, I realized that the embroidery stitches that tack down the lace would have to be altered if two of the stripes were flipped. I know I could have just used the sewing machine, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I just didn’t want the extra work. And boy, did this block turn out to be a bit of work - I guess it’s better to say that it was more difficult than I anticipated.
I was supposed to use the Kimberbell tape to hold down the lace. The problem is that the tape is very low-tack, so it did a terrible job of holding the lace in place and if you look at the second lace down, you’ll see that that one in particular didn’t give much space for the tackdown line (which meant there was very little room for error). I ended up seam ripping some of the stitches and repositioning the lace before stitching it down again. So before doing the next bit of lace, I tried to stitch down the right and left edges, but the rest of the lace just wanted to shift. I finally got smart (which took longer than it should have
) and used a glue stick to keep the lace in place. I still have a vertical lace block to make, so I’m glad I’ll have this trick up my sleeve!

Fabric, notions, keys, or even just a little bit of one’s sanity, the latest prize pack was all about keeping it together:
I thought I had entered a WIP, but I’ll check tomorrow. I’ve had some trouble uploading pictures so I might have put it off. But I’ve got a finish!
Now I’ve got my other machine set up I also want to get caught up on the BOM. I think I’ve missed March and April.
So I made a quilt about a month ago, I assume I can’t use that for this bingo prompt?
I Edel submit these for bingo prompts.
Wide back fabric and 50% stash
Finally finished my beetle quilt. I’ll give it is own post. But here is a preview of the whole thing. All of the fabric is from bedsheets. It’s the only way I can get wider fabric. I dyed everything, and then used cyanotype to make the beetles. Everything was from stash, even the cyanotype-but I ran out and one beetle is from a friend’s cyanotype stash.
Edit: here’s the post for this quilt Beetle quilt
@AudiobookLover query, does a cyanotype fabric qualify as a non traditional quilt fabric?
Share a recent supply purchase.
The two half metres are from our most recent quilt group day, there is a fabric seller that comes to us twice a year. I couldn’t resist these (half metre was€8 each). The black and white is a temu jellyroll. This was €9 and the strips are 1meter long.
I tried to show you the density of the weave, in case you’re curious about temu quality. It is very starched to give it body, and it’s definitely less dense than the quilt shop fabric, but honestly it’s not bad. But I’ll make a quick top to see how it behaves.
I Edel submit not one, but two! Goals finished. One is the beetle quilt above and the second is another wanderers wife section, this is the smallest section but that half square triangle block took forever. How many ways do I hate this pattern. Luckily I’m very stubborn.
Love this heart in a star block, super pretty!
I am beyond furious right now. My long armer has been gathering dust for months because life has been such that I haven’t had the head space to tend to it. In that time two sets of people have stayed in the room where it lives. My stepson (whom I dislike) and my friend and her twin 8 year olds. Someone has f***ed up the machine. I’ve been trying to fix it for four hours and can’t put in a single stitch. I’ve narrowed it down to one fixable issue or one that will cost me hundreds to get fixed. I’m too tired to try it now as it’s a delicate fix
It’s more likely to have been my stepson being drunk or stoned and falling against the machine and using the handles to save himself. But because I don’t like him it’s easier for me to point the finger at him, and not fair-so I will have to suck it up and sort it out myself
And mom’s will understand what I’m going through right now, I can’t be angry or frustrated outwardly because DH and DD take on all of my emotions, as it is there’s an atmosphere because I’m p**sed off. Being properly expressive would make that worse, so I’m trying to make everyone else comfortable.
Aaarrrgggh
I’m so sorry dear. That sounds terribly frustrating.
Got some quilting done on tote bag panels. The pink ones are completely done, but took wayyy too long, as I had to switch the guide feet back and forth for each parallel row.
The bottom half of the green ones went much faster, as I just stitched up the center of a green stripe, skipping two stripes, then going back down the center of the next stripe. Now I need to figure out what kind of pattern to do in the top.
Of course you’re angry
and the gut feeling is always to blame the person you don’t like, and you could certainly be right. I’m guessing there’s a good reason why you don’t like him. You’d think that a friend would let you know if her kids accidentally broke something. Is there a way to ask your friend in a non-accusing way if anything happened that she might not have thought was serious? If it had something to do with them maybe she can claim the cost on her insurance or something.
My sewing machines are in the guest room too and everyone knows not to touch them but I always fear the “stumbling around in the dark after a few drinks” scenario.
