In 1949 the mrssaging was to get women back to being domestics after WWII. And happy about it. Carried well into the 50s and 60s.

This reminds me of the tips my grandma gave me! She was a young woman in 1949, still unmarried at that time. In my country women didn’t work in WWI and WWII so they weren’t sent “back” to housework but “kept” there. Up until the 1980s here, many girls went to special high schools for girls, focused on learning domestic skills with only a handful of academic subjects as a little extra. The powers that be really tried to keep women at home for as long as possible.
Long intro, but grandma also told me to get dressed for productivity, including shoes (she had seperate indoor and outdoor shoes) and a “uniform”. Her daily uniform was an apron, and when she took it off, in her mind that signalled “rest time”. The shoes are sensible too so you don’t fall or slip or drop something on your foot. Always make sure your nails are in good shape because otherwise you might cause damage. Take breaks at set times throughout the day (10am, 4pm, 8pm). Plan meals and start dinner as early in the day as possible. She learned all those things at school. And I still apply these rules because they work (for me). I can’t get anything done in my PJ’s. Drinking a hot beverage at 10am is an event to sit down for, even at work. At home, I always wear the same handful of outfits that are cute, practical, comfortable and easy to wash (like grandma’s house dress). Wearing make-up while trying on clothes seems a bit impractical though. But where my grandma grew up, no “decent” woman would have worn make-up in 1949, especially during the day.
By the way, no matter how proud she was of her great domestic skills, grandma later sent both of her daughters to an academic highschool when that wasn’t the norm for working class women and was very proud her grandkids went to college.

I like the idea of one outfit to wear for … “task”. I’ve tried getting a friend to do this for years. She’s a painter, and is always complaining about ruining her clothes by getting paint on them. I’m always telling her to pick ONE outfit. Added bonus: after a while putting “the outfit” on will switch your brain into that mode.
Me… I WFH so sometimes don’t even get dressed. I sew in whatever I’m already wearing.

I need to have a “paint only” outfit. Right now, most of my clothes would qualify! I tend to paint in whatever I am wearing as well.

The second colorway, this is a 9" block. I don’t like the color choices on either of the blocks. But I am not redoing them; they will blend into the overall quilts. I guess we can’t make perfect choices every time.

We came down to San Diego this past weekend to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately, LittleBookLover came down with a fever and a cold (which I ended up catching) over the weekend. Since I know how these things go, I made the decision for us to just stay here for now (thankfully, we had two cars here, so Josh was able to drive home while we stayed). I’m expecting that we’ll be feeling better by next weekend and we’ll return home after the Monday holiday. But, that means I won’t get to the Q2 prize packs for another week, so thank you all so much for being patient!

OK, I copied @MistressJennie 's Aug block. It was just so striking and pretty. Not quite the same, but I love how it came out. Whew, caught up on BOMs for now. Second colorway to go, but I am ready for September.

How does everyone store their quilting rulers? Does anyone have a solution they like?

I don’t have a ton of rulers, but the smaller ones are in a Kallax bin together with hexie templates, embroidery hoops and other bits and bobs, and the 12,5" square ruler stands upright in the Kallax.

The only solutions I’ve come up with are getting a pegboard or nails in the wall, neither of which I’d like to do. Currently I’ve got them leaning up against the wall in a closet or scattered in various places.

I have my large rulers standing alongside a Kallax unit and smaller ones wedged upright in a hutch between fabric and a thread case. My mom has pretty nice ruler storage though. My dad made her this pocket that they attached to the side of her table:

I hang my long quilting ruler, and my pattern drafting rulers. The smaller ones I organize in a piece like Magpie’s. I know Jim found some 3D printer files to make them too. Oh, and my giant Stripology board ruler slides between a wall, and a drawer unit to keep it flat.

I’m halfway towards the Q3 challenge. I had bought a bunch of tie dye kits from Dollar Tree but didn’t get to it. Brought them with me to an event this weekend… that just happened to have a shibori class happening. So… two shibori dyed cotton bananas.
I also did a paint stamping class; she made the stamps via 3-d printer! This is a pre-made headband i stamped. Using it as an example as the unicorn I stamped on cotton and plan to make a pouch with is hiding. This class used fabric paint.
Hope there are no typos! I keep falling asleep
