Update: I rewarded myself with a nice new blade in my rotary cutter and I’ve already cut the BOM fabric! Now only the sashing left to cut. I feel like I do replace my blade regularly, but every time I’ve changed it, it feels like I should have done it earlier!

Lol I’m really spamming this thread now, but I’m working on the BOM (this option: Memory Quilt Block Tutorial: 6", 9" and 12" finished ) . And I think there’s a mistake in the cutting instructions. If you want the block to look like the picture of the finished block, you need to cut patch 5 from the dark fabric, not the light.
I’m halfway and I haven’t yet decided if I’m going to use the light square I’ve already cut, or whether I’m going to cut a dark square. It’s been a while since I last paper pieced, so this block is good practice. It’s fun to make but I have to say it’s time consuming.

Not a crown. She has a strip of binding fabric that I let her play with. She asked Jim to “tie it around her brain”, so she can be “in a band”. So yeah, very Karate Kid.

Thank you guys! Jim got her toddler bed taken apart, built the foundation, and unpacked the mattress. But when he went to assemble the bed frame, he found one of the wheels had broken off, and we couldn’t fix it/find a replacement. So then we couldn’t put the headboard on either. Meanwhile, she started burning up with a 102 fever last night, and asked to go straight to bed after dinner (she decided to skip her beloved story time, but found the strength to stay for a cookie for dessert), so her bed was on the floor. But she snuggled right in, and went straight to sleep.

@Immaculata, that block came out great! The brown background almost reminds me of Kraft paper (is it called that where you are? brown paper used to make paper grocery bags, or for craft projects). In a good way. It’s a calm moment for your eye to rest, against the vibrant pattern. Well done!

Very cool! I love the way the dots that are the same color as the background carry that color throughout the star…like little footprints.

You’re right, they do look like little footprints! I hadn’t noticed. During Covid my work got us gift vouchers in lieu of the annual Christmas party, and I got a FQ bundle of five really striking prints and matching Grunge fabrics from a local store. I had to rely on the quilt shop’s eye for colour as I couldn’t go in myself, but they did a fantastic job. The prints are all a bit wild but the solids will hopefully tie them together.
@MistressJennie irl it’s a little bit more yellow. We do call it Kraft paper now - we used to just call it brown paper but I guess thanks to the internet we’ve started to call it Kraft paper too.

That is one creative star block! The colors are unexpected but they work! I can’t wait to see the rest of the collection.
I still haven’t picked fabrics for my 2026 star blocks. I started Friday but then got distracted by my mini quilt kit. It will be late, but, I hope to have my star block at least started today.

I attended a quilt show last month where I got to see some beautiful quilts and pick up some fun supplies & goodies!
There was an art quilt challenge by Cherrywood Fabrics called Abyss - Creatures From the Deep. The rules for the challenge were:
- Use only the designated colors in the bundle
- Create an original design
- Use any technique and/or embellishment
- Finished piece must be 20" x 20"
